I went to the local festival and talked to a guy selling hats because his awning indicated that he used to work for some newspapers. He was in sales. He said it got bad after COVID, and people didn't get their papers delivered when he sold the subscriptions and digital package to them, and the people at the paper didn't seem to care anymore with all the layoffs happening. He said back in the '90s, that would never would have happened. People really got in trouble if papers weren't delivered.
He said that even today, because he still has the awning, several people came up to him and asked how they could get a subscription delivered to their house. We talked about how it was nice to just open a paper and not have lots of links to click on. And he didn't use language like it calms people's nervous system and stuff. But he was basically saying, it's a calmer way to get the news, and he says it brings things down, by which he meant it brings the stress levels down, to read the paper like that, the old fashioned way.
I said, I think people are going to realize that in the future, but they don't seem to realize it yet. And I meant the people who are in charge of things. The people who only seem to think about money and only seem to have short-term goals. And not long-term goals for making things better for humanity.
He was happy to talk to me because he was proud of his time working for the newspapers but he doesn't do it anymore. Now he's on to other things. He has a few businesses apparently. He was selling a lot of hats at the fair.
