She tells me it's been around a while and sometimes the cats get fed in the parking lot.
"Looks like it should be someone's cat. It's a pretty cat," she says.
I go in. When I look out the window, the cat is going over to the woman's porch. Not mewing anymore for now.

Once upon a single time...
Last night: insomnia. Started remembering things...how, at 19 or 20, I worked in a cafeteria and somehow wound up at a party with coworkers (one who didn't care for me as much asked the others "how did she get here?" But the others were cool.) I was enjoying a conversation with an artistic girl and then another girl came over and scrutinized us and rather assertively let it be known that I was talking to her girlfriend...a co-worker played the special single he got from the record shop. We thought it was so rare and edgy and cool. This was before YouTube. It doesn't quite effect me now as it did then but...fun to find it and listen to it again, for curiosity's sake...Madonna Justify My Love The Beast Within Remix.

I was telling this cat I might let the homeless cat in because it was making me sad that it was probably left behind. This cat seemed unimpressed, though. This cat was spoiling to fight that cat. I guess it's easier to bring in a homeless cat if your household is already catless. I remembered that I forgot to ask a higher power to help the homeless cat. That's another thing... Forgetting... remembering... forgetting... remembering... Homeless cat was vocal, but it did not want the dry cat food I offered. Maybe someone else was feeding it and will know how to care for it. I saw it run to other people, too. Also, what if the people who used to have it came back and got it? That might be okay, too...

Please transition to the next better thing...despairing situations have ben described...how one sad man ruins things...he is sexist and self-pitying...women search elsewhere...he doesn't get it...but he's the boss...the cat I tried to feed wanted to come in, was not interested in cheap cat food. Maybe someone else fed her. Cat that already lives here hisses...when I contacted people about a nokill shelter, they said the the one that used to be so great got bought by a movie star...now they only accept purebred kittens.

There's differences
SIGH. Stories. Phone. Again. REAL SITUATIONS. Lately, it really, really, really, really seems like, if you're a guy, and you've just coasted through life and gotten rightfully promoted for your hard work always, and never dealt with any nasty sexist B.S. and always was made to feel as if it was your right to get paid well and get respected (Of course! Since you're a guy! And you fit right into the OBN!) it's like...it's like we're on totally opposite planets, or something? Like, why do so many women I know have these problems? Especially ones going into traditionally male environments. And men, they are not taught to recognize what's happening. Why? Is life just like a big party game? You make money, you earn a pretty supporter who only says sweet things and never brings up anything negative, that's how it goes? Even women aren't supposed to talk about it too much because it's "too negative." BUT IT'S RIGHT THERE. AND IT'S SO NOT FAIR. I just... Words fail. AGAIN. It's a very frustrating time right now and it feels like it could CONTINUE FOREVER sometimes. And I remember being a kid, and telling myself, it wasn't that way anymore, since my mom was a single mother and a businesswoman. I would tell myself that it would all be worked out, as a grown up.

Because we live in an imperfect world...it might be more natural to not fit in sometimes...so, let's say that you are where you are on a sidewalk at night...and you imagine a soldier in a field on the other side of the world...is that fitting for Memorial Day? Pain is progression...going from one state to another...this is why some people become deeply contemplative. The earth is a work in progress. Sometimes, you get through things. Also, in so many places, still... If a man agitates, he's speaking out for progress. But if a woman agitates, she's ungrateful and has a bad attitude. So you better change your attitude, hadn't you? Why is is that women are rewarded more for listening to others and praising and being grateful. Women have to earn the right to be listened to by first doing those above things so the gatekeepers (and yes, they could be men, but they could also be women unconsciously subscribing to the same doctrines) reinforce the status quo over and over and over, but men don't have to do that as much.
Why does this situation still happen:
Man speaks: Oh your thoughts are automatically so worthy and interesting!
Woman speaks: zoooone out...look elsewhere...not listening to you today...
This is how it seems to me lately.
The other day, some young women were telling me about a man who routinely targets and harasses women. They told me that a woman with authority will just scold him for it like a child. They say he's done this for years. They have no confidence that he will change his behavior. The younger women were not happy. They don't want him to be scolded. They want him gone, out of their environment. I know people who have recently experienced very unfair work situations with male superiors. It wears one down. Then there are all the little subtle things that maybe wouldn't be so bad if there weren't all those other worse things going on, too. It wears one down. Then one has to figure out how to do other things, or go other places.

Now I want to see something

Mmm...it seems to have a lot of sheep in it.
You never know
what will restore your faith in humanity.
I was feeling so tired for a number of reasons, and especially because there were more stories (real ones) of women being treated badly at their workplaces and I went to a fast food place for something to eat.
The girl brought out food for me and asked me "Would you like that table wiped down?"
It was hardly dirty at all, there was just a straw wrapper on it. But I said "Yes."
Then she told a man to wipe it down and he did so.
He said, "I'm sorry about that."
"Oh no, that's okay, I know it get's busy on Friday!"
The girl said, "All these kids, you know," and rolled her eyes a bit and left.
I said "Thank you," to the man and I sat there and ate my unhealthy meal.
It was so great. It wasn't that he served me (although it was) but he just was happy to do so.
I was so happy, and grateful, and I appreciated it so much.
I gave him a very happy goodbye when I left and he returned it. It felt so nice and so rare and so genuine.
Wow.

I had a dream that some men on the radio were taking the opportunity to be critical of some girls with regards to their behavior...they were being lavish with moral judgments...
When everything is changing constantly and when we look at history, I believe that we can have room to remain curious about multiple approaches to learning and growing...sometimes what might be accepted in 50 or 100 years or more will not be the most popular approach today...it will not win the most money or praise...but that does not mean that it has no merit...
But then...
It meowed more. Someone left it. That's why it meows so much.Some other people are out there. Maybe...
Stray cat turned mostly indoor cat who stays downstairs and does not meow so much is vigilant at the door...

Sigh
The cat I never fed (not even once) was meowing outside again. "Is it a boy cat?" (Would not be good to let that one in, the girl that's in now hasn't been spayed yet.)
"Well, it looks like a fluffy calico so it's probably a girl." "The last thing you want is a cat fight." SIGH. I wish someone else in the complex would take pity on this one. It's a pretty cat. (I had a funny thought I should tell it to use its looks to its advantage. Ha.) It looks like a combination of two cats I had before. But this other one came first and was hissing at the newcomer. Zero percent want a cat fight. Plus, there was a no pets rule when we moved in, and the only reason the cat's in now is because the landlady specifically had said she thought I should keep the cat. Other people have cats. Someone, help this cat! Or I will have to catch it and take it to a shelter, because I hate to have to ignore it. It wears on me. Maybe if it went to a shelter, someone would adopt it.

cat talk?
a nice cat was crying outside the door...I've never fed it, or even really petted it...actually I did see it around and tried to pet it once...at the time, it ran away...anyway, tonight it was very friendly and wanted to come inside, however...hiss hiss hiss hiss hiss...the cat that was here first is not having it...perhaps cats talk...this one went out and bragged to the others...now she's defending her territory...I tried looking up a local no-kill shelter and they are "full to capacity"...maybe if it hangs around, one of the other people who used to feed this cat will notice it...

Character finds herself at a time when a guy she was dating wanted her to be like, a size 4, apparently, and urged her to exercise a lot because it would "make her feel better about herself."
Character says: Actually, you know what makes me feel better about myself? Being me! Being me, and not being around you anymore! Thank you! Thank you very much!

It is the time of day when housemate takes a shower. Note to self: in the future, never get into a situation where the bathroom is next to your bedroom. Because some people have sinus issues. I might still have the "Dead doctors don't lie" cassette tape that I received in my mailbox. None of my other friends at school got it. I never listened to it, but I never exactly forgot it. (Kind of a startling title.) It's online now. I could play it in the background, while cleaning or something. Anyway. Grilled cheese / tomato soup mania. Does that still happen?

It's quite annoying when a man who could have done better ignores everything else you said but is real good at focusing on the "amusing girl rivalry due to patriarchal societal bias in regards to certain types of appearances" aspect, and he doesn't actually give a whit about the societal bias. Just because it doesn't affect him negatively. Why not use the imagination? It's also annoying when a woman does the same thing.

Dream / "IRL"
Dream: I got an urge to move faster so I began running.
My holey hooded pullover camouflaged me so people thought I was a goofy kid, ducking out of the way of cars, perhaps not appearing to be very bright or coordinated, kind of like an unsophisticated sort of "Harry Potter" type who ran into side streets but was having fun with this particular form of movement.
(I looked up goofy runner. This is a thing, apparently. Oh my god.)
IRL: I went to a park, saying to myself that I would only go on a little hike, not climb the big hill this time. Then I turned on the other street and parked next to the big hill.
I thought about climbing it. There were people setting up a party with decorations and gift bags and little kids running around. Hungry Heart was on the radio. That reminded me of East Coast things.

I decided to walk up the hill. Even before I got to the entrance (I haven't climbed it in 3 months) I was not happy. But actually climbing it wasn't so bad. I took a lot of rest breaks. Why not? I was there to take in the views. Also I walked up backwards for some of the way.
Some other day it might be fun to go all the way to the top without stopping, but that was a day to take breaks and enjoy the views.
On the way down I passed another woman. She was quite a bit lighter than I am. She was taking in the views, too. I told her there's a nice tree a little ways further to rest under and she said "Oh, no, I'm going all the way up to the top!" For a minute I thought that meant she wasn't going to take anymore breaks, but she told me she stops every fifty feet. We told each other "Everyone stops to rest." Of course, that's not true, but quite a few people do. There are "scenic stops" at most every turn.

I was trying to eat corn chips the other day and they tasted completely disgusting. Not stale. Just terrible.

Maybe a movie where the equivalent of your favorite whomever wearing large spike heels and mashing through your eyes and forehead and brains and blood and guts spilling out just to you know eradicate the weird maybe hormonally induced biological not really it's merely society has not wait what is that gruesome imagery all about. Okay nevermind. Ha ha. The beginning was...well only two minutes of a life wasted is not that long.

I support healing anxiety and dental issues. Seriously. For everyone. That's my insight of the evening.
Oh yeah and that self compassion stuff is for everyone too.
O mother of the world
Inconclusive Friday visit and tooth wasn't so bad but made an appointment to go back in a week. Today went to two parks and here were some nice experiences I was thinking about writing about but tonight the tooth thing is worse, ever since eating dinner. I've taken Aleve. It's not that it's so painful, but it feels so off. Something is wrong. I'm so tired of this. Warm salt water again. Mother of the World. Have mercy on my health situation, please. What is the positive? I have a good feeling about warm salt water. I will take Oil of Oregano, too. I will do a meditation. Love is for those of us who are tired, too. Healing. People need healing. Everyone needs healing. Better care for their bodies and spirits and everything.

Okay. I am on minute two. 18 minutes to go? A desperate person swishes coconut oil in her mouth. This is fairly gross. Wow. Minute 3...Maybe I will cry. I don't understand how eating a healthy dinner can trigger this yucky feeling and really there was a nice day going on, too, with the two parks and I saw some nice things. Honestly. Honestly. Honestly. I should look up "Here Comes The Sun." There's music for my tooth and all the pain it represents. The emotional stuff too. Minute five. Here's a chipper person on ukulele singing that song. Way to go you made it to minute eight. Oh my god. Minute ten. My cheek swishing muscles are tired. This is the whimper. As opposed to the bang. I don't care what poem that's from. Minute 11. Some of this stuff is not in my mouth anymore. God created people who made paper towels for a wonderful reason. What can our mouths do. When we communicate imperfectly. A mother creates a person who grows up and gets miserable about a tooth issue and swishes oil in her mouth. Minute 14. The end is in sight. I will write about those happy things I saw today. But not right now. I have coconut oil swish in my mouth. This is fairly gross. That was mentioned. Maybe people just do this to get their mind off things. It is an experience. It might help. It probably won't make it worse. WOW HUMAN EXPERIENCE. 3 more minutes to go. Never do this without paper towels handy. Why are we on this planet. Why. To swish oil in our mouths for twenty minutes and survive that. Yes one more minute. I have to admit. The experience. Is. Something.
