Some interesting Irish things

Or....people....
Older: Nothing Compares...
Newer: Angels In My Hair

Delightful

has to drag out old materials from school days (whats left after moves between 5 different states and 3 different time zones) and REALLY LONGS to smoke cigarettes. (Not a common feeling.) Don't do that any more so instead burning incense, drinking VERY strong green tea, and listening to old muuuuusic....like...6 Underground (Brings back a young summer of waiting tables. Standing outside of a restaurant and staff talk about how other restaurants bring better tips. Young men and their cars in the parking lot.) What next. This old box needs to really be gone through. Push It?
Que mas?

From an old notebook:
JP's analogy: needling is like going into a batting cage, large long objects to wield. Cross stitching more intricate, more like going to a driving range.
(What? Was that perhaps supposed to be shooting range?)
Needs more incense.

7:45 on the LC

Midnight In Paris in a Community Setting. Community clapped and was charmed, but Someone Else had a cramp in her butt and thought, "the female characters are pretty snoozerific."
Lonely Guy in the corner said, He's a good actor, huh ?(He not She!)
Uh...yeah... Someone Else replied. And felt touched by Lonely Guy. But Then...
So Do You Come Here And Watch Movies A Lot?
No, Just This Time.
Someone Else regretfully acted on the impulse to leave. (How to be Nice and not A Jerk to the Lonely Guys of The World?) Someone Else had work waiting for her at home.

Examining unknowns

Today's productive new hobby: browsing around for info on fonts and their creators' bios. It's even rather fun to wonder about people who worked with typefaces, even if the net doesn't offer much exciting information about their lives. But there was Garamond (not as much about lesser knowns who altered his typefaces)...Baskerville led a rather interesting life & was friends with Ben Franklin...of course, there has to be someone with a rep, or rather, "reprehensible private life," like Gill of Gill Sans fame...a striking Scarlet Letterish image came from this entry about Bodoni... "On his chest, when examining his dead body they found the deep scar left by the bar of the printing press."

On the way to the funny building

Preparing to meet the building of funny this evening, since the book has finally arrived! Earlier, was on the way to a very different kind of funny building when I passed by a playground and a pack of swearing kids. I drew close to the pack and was surprised at myself. They were like young middle school kids talking about who the toughest kids are in their class. Something about their demeanor grounded me. I continued on, did what I had to do, and came back, relieved that the task had been completed. As I went by the park again on the way back a boy was fooling around or doing something on a little ledge. "This one's for you ma'am!" he shouted at me. "Just kidding." I took pictures of a tree with pink flowers. I do hope that Three Men will be funny!

Clubby

Um, so if this evening is any indicator, I'm not a book club person. Oh and by the way, everything's sexist. People are. Not trees so much. I heard that geese REALLY are. (Thinking of The Poultry Slam on This American Life.) That was a really cool story though. But possibly, I'm more of a "discuss stories over the phone with old grad school friends" person. And also, I just think I'm better at hanging out with crazy people. Which sometimes might just be...the crazy people in my head! She said. Sometimes I have a mini-crisis about what I should do about literature and then it's so ARRGH. I can study other things. Sometimes when I get in these moods I go on google and then I am sorry. I came across this--A Macabre Start--and--this was so very annoying--they had to say that so and so "held court last year surrounded by a bevy of beautiful women." FTS.

Sometimes the characters in Mad Men are annoying. But sometimes I like to watch that show...on the last episode I caught on Netflix, Joan yelled at Peggy in the elevator. "I'm just a meaningless secretary and you're a humorless bitch," said Joan. I had to find that quote in an article called Why Do The Mad Men Writers Make Betty Draper Such A Monster? Anyway, I think the lit festival article would've been much improved by (Insert Name Of Any Old Author) "held court, surrounded by a bevy of beautiful penises."

Mad Men may or may not be good for me? It's fun to watch. But I do suspect it's contributed to way too much drinking of beer and eating of Cheetos!

Hi song!

Tonight, song is Tiger Mountain Peasant Song. Thank you for making part of day a little better; 'tis helpful (along with some beer) especially during financial worries and also when some people really seem full of $#@!%.

On an unrelated but not completely unrelated note Weird Stuff has happened.
To someone
Who neeeeeeeds
To make money!
Wow this was going to be a lot more articulate. I guess that's more for later as usual.

After diligently working on something related to potential employment, I had to stop and watch television. Then I took a quiz. Result: You are the Dowager Countess of Grantham... Then I took it again. Same result. I think everyone is the Dowager Countess.

And you will go

to Mykonos
with a vision of a gentle coast
And a sun to maybe dissipate
Shadows of the mess you made...
Brother you don't need to turn me away
I was waiting down at the ancient gate
You go wherever you go today...

2 songs for Sunday night

Lorelai
The Shrine

humor to order

ordered 3 Men In A Boat from la bibliotecha in part because of Victorian Humor At Its Silliest... which also told me I should read A Revolution On The Page... Don't actually find My Papa's Waltz to be so frightening, but at age 14 instinctively liked it. Also felt the need to reread Dancing...

Very varied

What people do for a living.
This struck me as kind of funny:

You

must file Schedule SE if:

You had church employee income of

$108.28 or more

That's how it came out when I tried to cut and paste it. It's almost like a poem!

Isles of influences

Happy Times! Seeing a big pond, feeling pockets of cold refreshing air by a reservoir, visiting a beach/pier at the end of "the mother road," trying British food while being stared at by a picture of Winston Churchill over a fireplace and a monkey shaped teapot, hiked up steps to the top of a parking garage, made it in spite of steak and kidney pie, watched A Dangerous Method, breakfasted on scrambled eggs with gorgonzola, and shall continue a certain pleasurable escapism with Season 2 of Downton Abbey (got the TV to work in color again, somehow), and I do truly like this:
Make glorious, amazing mistakes
~~~~
Whilst movie watching--Freud to Jung: "There's a rumor you've taken one of your patients as a mistress." (Cora to Lady Mary: "There's a rumor in London that you are not virtuous.") Internal snicker.
Sin Nombre was sobering.
