When I was in 7th grade and I had to take the bus to the junior high and it would no longer come to my house so I had to walk a mile to the bus stop and there was an older young man who was already in high school and I was terrified of him and never wanted to encounter him during that mile long walk to the bus stop, but one day I did encounter him and as I was walking quickly he said nothing for several minutes but then he turned to me and said, "You best start running if you want to make it," meaning that I needed to start running if I wanted to catch the school bus.
