This was an interesting experience, too.

"Everything went black."

By Caitlin Johnstone

"I used to be pro-Palestinian. I thought Israel was wrong for carpet bombing Gaza and using siege warfare on civilians.

But then I ran into a very wise Israel apologist who changed my way of looking at things forever.

I was walking down the street and I saw him leaning against a lamp post, smoking a pipe as wise men do.

“Your shirt says Free Palestine,” he said from behind a plume of smoke.

“Yep!” I replied.

“So I guess that means you love Hamas then?” spake he.

I stopped in my tracks. I’d never thought of it that way before.

Could it be? Could my opposition to murdering civilians really be indicative of a deep affection for a Gazan militant group? Maybe I really did love Hamas and think everything it did on October 7 was great and wonderful?

“Is this really how I want to live my life?” I thought to myself.

“I — I — I…” I said out loud.

“Or perhaps,” he said with a raised eyebrow, “you just HATE JEWS??”

I fell to my knees.

Oh my God. He really had a point. What possible reason could anyone have for opposing military explosives being dropped on buildings full of children besides a seething lifelong hatred of adherents to the religion of Judaism? How could anyone possibly oppose siege warfare tactics which cut off civilians from food and water and electricity and fuel and medical supplies unless they harbored a dangerous hostility toward members of a small Abrahamic faith?

“Who… who are you?” I asked.

“That’s of no consequence,” he said, casually blowing a smoke ring through another larger smoke ring.

“But… but the children,” I stammered as my entire worldview crumbled before my eyes. “The civilians! They’re dying! Isn’t it bad that they’re dying?”

And then he went for the coup de grâce.

“Have you considered,” he said before a pregnant pause, “… that all of those deaths are the fault of Hamas?”

I fell flat on my back. The world was spinning. A trickle of blood ran down into my hair from my ear.

I felt all the anti-colonialism leaving my body. I suddenly could no longer remember why I thought it was bad to rain down military explosives on a densely populated concentration camp.

Everything went black.

When I finally came to, the mysterious stranger was gone. But his wisdom and profound insights into Israel and Gaza will always live on in my heart."

It seems like only yesterday that I was buying a green bell pepper for 79 cents.

"This time of year, Hilaria Santiago typically picks bell peppers in the California desert.

But after a pair of unusual back-to-back summer storms washed vegetable seedlings out of fields in the eastern Coachella Valley, Santiago had to find another seasonal job. She’s now sorting dates in a small packinghouse, working just 20 hours a week, with at least 21% of the date crop damaged.

Santiago had already been struggling to support her nine children, ages 3 to 24, even with help from her oldest son, who works in the fields by day and a restaurant by night.

'There are times when the kids want a pizza, or hamburgers, or Chinese food, and if I don’t work, I don’t have enough money to buy these things,' said Santiago, an immigrant from Acapulco."

I am okay with it, and more than okay with it.

I am glad I had a strange upbringing.

I hope good people and good cats meet and help each other.

Sometimes I get a wave of feeling so disappointed about not being able to save the cat and her kittens. I know it's probably like an inner child thing. I wanted some other things to be better too.

Cat Blessings

Sometimes I still remember the dream for the inner child about getting to take both this cat and another cat with kittens to a farm, and I think about how if I lived closer maybe I would be giving food to the cat who touched her nose to my finger...and then I remember that other cat people lived there, and hope for the best.

You're gonna come back, & it's gonna be different!

i could be dying. i could be in a car passing by someone dying. i am not feeling smart. i am feeling real real real stupid & humble. sometimes i get why we need religion and help to get through life and become people who act less ridiculous. i feel like an old self has died.

Hey Humility

Humility Humility Humility Humility Humility Humility Humility Humility Humility Humility Humility Humility Humility Humility Humility Humility Humility Humility Humility Humility Humility Humility Humility Humility Humility Humility Humility Humility Humility Humility Humility Humility Humility Humility Humility Humility Humility Humility Humility Humility Humility Humility Humility Humility Humility Humility Humility Humility Humility Humility Humility Humility Humility Humility Humility Humility Humility Humility Humility Humility Humility Humility Humility Humility Humility Humility Humility Humility Humility Humility Humility Humility Humility Humility Humility Humility Humility Humility Humility Humility Humility Humility Humility Humility Humility Humility Humility Humility Humility Humility Humility Humility Humility Humility Humility Humility Humility Humility Humility Humility Humility Humility Humility Humility Humility Humility Humility Humility Humility Humility Humility Humility Humility Humility Humility Humility Humility Humility Humility Humility Humility Humility Humility Humility Humility Humility Humility Humility Humility Humility Humility Humility Humility Humility Humility Humility Humility Humility Humility Humility Humility Humility Humility Humility Humility Humility Humility Humility Humility Humility Humility Humility Humility Humility Humility Humility Humility Humility Humility Humility Humility Humility Humility Humility Humility Humility Humility Humility Humility Humility Humility Humility Humility Humility Humility Humility Humility Humility Humility Humility Humility Humility Humility Humility Humility Humility Humility Humility Humility Humility Humility Humility Humility Humility Humility Humility Humility Humility Humility Humility Humility Humility Humility Humility Humility Humility Humility Humility Humility Humility Humility Humility Humility Humility Humility Humility Humility Humility Humility Humility Humility Humility Humility Humility Humility Humility Humility Humility Humility Humility Humility Humility Humility Humility Humility Humility Humility Humility Humility Humility Humility Humility Humility Humility Humility Humility Humility Humility Humility Humility Humility Humility Humility Humility Humility

Humans need help and training.

How do we learn how to take really care of ourselves. What do we do to help others. i feel stupid, and i got so sick, but if i can get smarter and do anything to make a cat or a human feel better than i would love to learn...

Humility again.

i wonder if my headache and illness got even worse after i saw a homeless man on a sidewalk who didn't seem to look well and i was a passenger in a car speeding by and not looking forward to traffic and really wanted to get home well the traffic was awful and by the time i got here i was moaning and i thought maybe a shower would clear my sinuses and before i could get inside i threw up three times and all the steam made sunblock sting my eyes and when i finally got under the water i was thanking Jesus but not feeling like the smartest one on Earth at the moment

Humility.

I still have a lot to learn about health. Thank god I am recovering from getting horribly ill after one last trip to the old place and a wicked headache and snarls of dreadful traffic. Taking care of these genetics is not for the faint of heart. Oh Lord. I am truly honored to feel a little better and humbled by that dreadful experience. I feel love after feeling like I was dying. I want to become so much smarter for the rest of this lifetime. I need to close my eyes now.

I wonder which one to read first. Time for a drink!

I could read Semple's book alongside "Lessons in Chemistry"

"Garmus has an impressive ability to maintain a Campari-like balance of the bitter and the sugary. Elizabeth endures harrowing setbacks, not just a wall of sexism in her career but also a sexual assault and the deaths of loved ones. Trauma abounds in the sympathetic characters’ backstories. Elizabeth’s father, a charismatic religious charlatan, is in prison, and her gold-digger mother is out of the picture, run off to Latin America with her latest rich husband. Madeline’s father, an orphan, grew up in a grim Catholic boys’ school. Elizabeth’s helpful neighbor Harriet has a vile, abusive husband who expects her to tidy up his dirty magazine collection. All of Elizabeth’s bosses (with the exception of the meek producer who makes her a TV star) are insulting, domineering lechers. A more vulnerable woman would be utterly downtrodden by all this, but Elizabeth’s determined single-mindedness and indifference to what other people think of her—the same qualities that tend to alienate her colleagues—provide a kind of shield."

I got "Bernadette" in my head. It makes me think of being 21 & getting groceries at a Shop Rite in Seattle.

"Lessons in Chemistry belongs to a genre of literary fiction that could be called the quirky tragicomedy. The novel it’s most often likened to is 2012’s Where’d You Go, Bernadette, by Maria Semple, about a daughter trying to understand her mother’s abandonment. In these books, the main character has amusingly eccentric traits or interests and suffers undeniably serious losses, but the overall tone remains light, with a touch of rueful melancholy and a whole lot of brave soldiering on. After a boom in the 2000s, this style of fiction seems to be increasingly uncommon, which explains why some of today’s readers, raised on plots that milk trauma for all it’s worth, find the novel’s tone confusing."

A wave of peace & blessings 💖🕊️🙏😺

I am committed to getting better at healing rather than rehashing old traumas & I hope more & more people will find it easier to do what is truly the best for them in the future.

Sojourners Sojourn.

I am learning how to get more aware of how to access states of gratitude, even when some are still in the middle of a transitioning process. We will get there eventually.

Sometimes it feels like I have almost learned too much about how and why some people rely on very unhealthy coping mechanisms, but it is still worth it to seek out a more healing path. I will just do the best I can to get healed from trauma.

And it seems that so much gratitude is still available to us in this universe, so that knowing this can help us, even when the one is who is in the middle of some kinds of turmoil is not sure what will happen next. Learning how to take time to allow new knowledge about healing to seep in is a good undertaking, too.

Even though it's not super rural, there's more sky to see out the window, and I got to retrieve the binoculars and get a closer look at some soaring raptors and their golden feathers!

This day has been different than the dreams that started it.

But, noting to self that when a bunch of people collectively decide that killing some other people and their children is a good and necessary thing, those are definitely some bad dreams.

And it's only an oven door, and the coat rack is not a ghost from the 1920s...

What's a beautiful thing to contemplate after such dreams?

Humans evolving and become better and wiser, so that their fears and traumatic responses do not convince them that how well they treat other people does not matter.

The dreams were so real.

I do feel very angry about humans being needlessly unhealthy and uncaring towards other humans now.

I am glad I had those dreams.

Even if the first one, about people trying to survive, and still dying, was too horrible to even describe. The second one was also really difficult and disturbing. The third one was the best one.

Then the best dream.

Being in an empty apartment and seeing a friend who had left peer into the window and saying to the old friend, "Oh, I am so relieved to see you again." Some people were returning to their old neighborhoods, like survivors coming back to begin a new life.

Then I had still dreadful dreams that were only a little less horrible

Instead of poisonings happening, people were leaving their apartments before things got worse. Hard decisions. Plans to leave pets behind with food because how to get them out?

I had dreadful, dreadfully realistic dreams about trying to escape and people dying

I don't even know what side I was on. There were groups migrating, and some would travel on foot for a while before "accidentally" getting poisoned and dying. Parents with older children were doing this.

Of course, that's true, too.

Maybe learning how to get much better at healing yourself is the whole point of some lifetimes on this planet.

Yes, yes, and yes.

Isn't it beautiful to be able to rest and let go and to allow more peace and tranquility into your life?

I am on a healing journey again because it is very necessary.

I feel gratitude. Even though the oven broke before we even got to use it once and that issue hasn't been resolved yet, I can absolutely tell that it was better to move here, and I feel a new layer of peace becoming more and more accessible to me, and I hope I can understand more about why that is and what else I can learn from this journey very soon.

Well, for various reasons, l was also remembering that back in the '80s, there was guy with a lot of money who would go out of his way to be a nightmare to a waitress, and then he'd leave her an obscenely enormous tip that would leave her crying and her manager saying, "She's a single mother, you don't know what this means to her." The customer who left her the Big Tip was the wealthy son of Holocaust survivors, and it was said that he did stuff like that because he wanted to reward people for getting through tough times. Or something like that.

(He was quite nice to me. I was a little kid when I met him. But the last memory I have about him is of standing outside in the freezing cold, waiting for him to bring the car around to pick us up, wondering why it was taking so long.)

Tonight is more peaceful.

Over the weekend I was able to break down and cry, maybe in part because I was upset I couldn't save a cat, but maybe also because of some other experiences that really just needed more good healing energy from the universe. The cat might be able to benefit from being helped in another way at this time. A person who thought she needed to get her pain healed in certain ways might be able to have it happen regardless of what others are choosing. And that could be a very good piece of knowledge to integrate.

Thanks very much to a good universe of evolution and progress.

I can heal more as I begin to know that I can enjoy the good things that I have experienced and allow them to bring me comfort, and I can also allow the messages that were not as healthy for me to go onwards and continue evolving...

All of the little experiences may rain down upon me.

Like recipes and canning and women going to church...

According to nature,

a quiet-seeming cat can be a big deal.

In transition, because of the energy of the universe.

At least one more time I will be able to go back to feed the beautiful cat who is black with brown and gold and perhaps a bit of white and other markings, who showed herself to me as I was going through a transition. I was able to make the discovery of her cute little kittens before I left. And I saw evidence that others may leave food and that they may otherwise will keep an eye out...I also saw evidence that others could make use of things that we left behind.

But I will always wonder or be partially convinced that some higher healing forces were at work when she showed up on my path, as if to say...

See me.

Pray for health & a good oven!

I slept like one who needed to recover from a major illness and threw away defrosted food since the oven door broke open (like the car door I saw when I was driving) on it's very first use. My body is happy with me for napping.

Blink - blink

Images of the nozzles of spray bottles of cleanser appear in your mind but you're happy to have seen that others put out some food for a cat (or cats) before drifting off to sleep...

Nature is there to remind me of being present...

And yet it also reminds me of stories of ancient people who revered cats when I think about myself, leaving the apartment with my head full of my own worries, but noticing a cat on the sinewy pathway who was black and maybe just playing with shadows and barely not hidden by the darkness but nevertheless boldly and slowly appearing to this human, on purpose it seemed...

And she was by that apartment where those troubled people had to leave and left all their things behind. And later, finding out she has kittens...seeing the cuteness of two of them. Well, if I take the time to notice, it really hits me on multiple levels.

And there's a kid inside who thinks, oh, if only we all lived on a farm.

Communicating with beings in this universe.

I am remembering walking on winding paths at night and how a cat who was curious would appear to show itself to this human in the shadows. Saw her again while back at the old place tonight. Gave her some food. Hoping someone can help the black cat with some brown / gold markings and her three kittens of different colors back at the old place. I left some signs. Sigh. If only...

It was also interesting that I kept seeing one particular guy over today. Three times while I was coming or going, there he was.

I saw a cat in the window where an older woman who was friendly and offered to lend me her dolley. She might see the signs?

One time I thought I saw a gray cat who resembled the one that used to get fed in another apartment window.

Nature is good.

The old place was / is / can be a good place.

I honestly still cannot imagine being able to pretend that the stuff some people choose to do is okay, so I shall not.

I like to rest muscles

Hello world,

I'm your exhausted girl, ch-chch-ch

ch-chch-ch cherry smash

still moving

Please be good, universe!

To an aching back & a black cat & 3 kittens which just appeared today, all differently colored.

Dear children of the bygone days.

If your dad died and your mom got put in an asylum, how did you get by?

Who went to work first?

Did the oldest siblings become the new parents to the youngest ones?

Were there enough aunts and uncles to take in all of you?

What was the sadness of needing "cheaper and more docile" humans to work for you like...

"Migrant children produce the food we eat and the clothes we wear, working for household names like Cheerios and J. Crew.  They work in extremely hazardous conditions in factories, construction sites, and slaughterhouses.  Exhausted from this grueling work, some drop out of school."

~ Anita Alem

https://harvardlawreview.org/blog/2023/03/what-the-child-labor-crackdown-is-missing/

"The causes for the exploitation of these migrant children’s labor are structural and multifold.  Over the past two years, 250,000 unaccompanied children, frequently from Central America, have entered the United States.  First, children are provided little support after entry.  The Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), which is responsible for placing these children with families in the United States, has reduced protections like background checks and offers little if any case management services.  In an illustrative secret recording, HHS Secretary Xavier Becerra derided staff for not processing children more efficiently: 'If Henry Ford had seen this in his plants, he would have never become famous and rich.'

Second, migrant children feel pressure to work, as children often enter the country with plan to send remittances to their family.  Others are expected to contribute financially to the households they have been placed with in America.  Still others are pushed into labor as a result of human trafficking. Many of these children are not of legal working age.  Those who are, though, are eligible for work authorization, but often have difficulty navigating the permitting system on their own.  Thus, migrant children frequently obtain employment via fraudulent documentation, and as unauthorized migrant workers, they are already particularly vulnerable to poor labor conditions.

Coupled with a tight labor market, employers looking to child labor for 'cheaper and more docile workers,' and some states attempting to loosen child labor laws, it comes as no surprise that these migrant children have become part of 'a new economy of exploitation.'  As Dreier stated, 'people often say that this is something that’s hiding in plain sight. But, I mean, it’s barely hiding. It is in plain sight.'”

~ Anita Alem

https://harvardlawreview.org/blog/2023/03/what-the-child-labor-crackdown-is-missing/

Embarrassment can be a good thing, sometimes.

"I’m embarrassed to be writing an anti-child labor article in the year 2023, as if this is some Charles Dickens novel leaking gruel and cruel men. It is not as if child labor had ever disappeared, of course; children around the world toil in fast-fashion sweatshops and among the mountains of garbage in other countries but produced by Silicon Valley. This is unfortunately where capitalism is heading, and has always been heading: children competing with their parents for jobs amid the ruins of societies we sacrificed for profit. But for awhile it seemed like child labor might have escaped the empire to live primarily in its colonial subjects.

Child labor was once as rampant in the US as it is in the countries of the developing world. In 1900, one out of five American children – including children as young as 10 – were employed. A quarter of textile workers in the American south were under the age of 16. In the north, factories relied on child labor so heavily that some areas suffered from 'boy shortages' that led to corporate agents traveling the country in search of orphaned children to put to work.

It is difficult to calculate the total number of legal and illegal child workers in the US today. In the agricultural industry alone, there are likely hundreds of thousands of children, largely from Central America. A New York Times investigation earlier this year found that many US brands directly or indirectly use child labor, including Lucky Charms, Nature Valley, Ford and J Crew."

~ Akin Olla

"A meat processer killed a 16-year-old. Yet US lawmakers want more child labor"

https://www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2023/sep/27/us-legislators-child-labor-corporate-profits

"They're people, too, and that's why you must ask..."

"Why are they still acting like being insensitive jerks to others helps them feel like they're winning at life?"

"Somehow, they got stuck in repeating old-fashioned, abusive patterns, and it actually really was not necessary for them to repeat those patterns."

So much better.

I know that even trying to imagine what it must have been like to be a woman who had double digits amount of kids and a husband who died quickly and unexpectedly, who then collapsed and was sent away to an asylum is hard, but a part of me thinks that I must have been deeply curious to learn more about why people are so susceptible to certain kinds of suffering.

I may have soreness in my body, but it is so wonderful that now I get to appreciate the good feeling of not suffering from nervous exhaustion. There's still more to come, but why am I feeling so much better now? I don't really know, but I am truly grateful. And I hope that maybe I will gain more insight very soon.
