In the dark early am hours, a snippet of a song with a chorus of girls' voices kept coming through my phone. It would play for just a little bit and then cut off. It did this several times. I could not tell what it was, but thought to myself, I guess I might know what that song was some day.
And then today, when I was lucky enough to be able to have a facial massage (I really wanted one because of the dental work earlier in the year and all the tension in my jaw) "Cracklin' Rose" by Neil Diamond kept going around in my head. This is not normally a song I listen to, so that was kind of weird and interesting.
In the evening while I was visiting the desert, I found out how to check a history on my phone which picks up the songs that got recognized. I wanted to see if it might have picked up that chorus of girls music from earlier in the morning.
The earliest song I could find was one I don't remember playing whatsoever; it said that early this morning there was a song by Charli xcx called "House."
And after a very long and drawn out intro, the lyrics over and over went "I think I'm gonna die in this house."
Good grief! I didn't want this over the top morose song to interfere with my fun sunset in the desert experience. Still, I was kind of laughing at it.
Honestly, I don't remember whatever was coming out of my phone in the morning sounding at all like that song. The snippets of a chorus of girls sounded so much more joyful than that.
Then I got a really interesting idea. I thought, I wonder if you could sample or remix little parts of a really depressing song and make it sound joyful?
But now I'm just really curious if what was coming out of my phone was an alteration of that song. I mean, the same part of it kept coming up, but it sounded so different.
Some songs really are "out there" songs...
