There are so many people who have felt like outcasts of society on this Earth, and that can be a very painful feeling. So sometimes, when people are desperate not to feel like outcasts, they will join groups in order to feel a sense of belonging and security. But there are also some people who cannot in good conscience be the kinds of joiners of certain groups that others are. Or maybe it's better to say that they expect an experience of a society in which it's more acceptable to have deeper conversations and even disagreements. Are these kinds of people destined to suffer in utter loneliness and solitude all the time? I don't think so. I have wondered sometimes if in the United States our society suffers more from a lack of enthusiasm when it comes to having discussions about important topics that may include disagreements. But still, you can find pockets of humanity where people are willing to have the kinds of discussions that help us consider multiple points of view if you are interested, and if you look for them.
