On the other hand, we do know what a favored son is. A favorite son is who everyone else is supposed to be thinking about, and a patriarchal society does a great job of reminding us that this is the whole point of the patriarchal society. When a favorite son becomes a father, that is a great day in the favored son's life. It's kind of weird that a lot of fathers end up running away from their responsibilities in spite of all that.
