On the one hand, it's sad to know that the student who said "we don't talk about them; we banish people like that to a village" might just be more honest about how other people are already acting anyway.

On the other hand, it's hopeful to contemplate the thought that people in the upcoming generations will not be repeating those same kinds of prejudices, either in words, or in deeds and behaviors. 

"Actions speak louder than words," as they say.
