Many parents were taught to be very controlling and insensitive as a way to succeed in a Patriarchal Culture.

The groomed - to - be - insensitive parents hate identifying with certain kinds of women and children, because it doesn't help them feel in control of their emotions like the Patriarchal Cult expects and wants them to be. It's easier for them to do what the cult wants. They are what the cult wants parents to be like, so the cult can continue to be in control. 

Being insensitive and shutting out certain types of women and girls feels natural and normal to them. Focusing on money and business and cars and homes and vacations...That helps them feel like it's worth it to continue the cycle of insensitivity. That is what the Patriarchal Cult wants the successful people to be like.
