Parents need to start getting A LOT more responsible when it comes to not going along with Patriarchal rape culture.
As far as the whole phenomenon of some moms and dads still making excuses for fantastic athletes even when they rape teenage girls, a lot of parents weren't really raised to respect women. Teenage girls are the lowest on their rung of who they got taught to respect, while simultaneously being the most desired by the most predatory of men.
It's a horrifying scenario. It's absolutely horrifying.
And the oldest daughter is not about just protecting herself cuz maybe she feels she knows how to do that. But what about protecting all of the innocents? What about that? And it's not rational, and it's crazy making stuff. There really is a lot of pressure put on oldest daughters in certain circumstances.
Oldest daughters do more of the emotional work than the actual parents when it comes to raising the children a lot of the time. This is a big truth that has not been acknowledged often enough
And maybe sometimes the oldest daughter is actually the oldest brother. Sometimes that's the case, too. These are not entirely perfect analogies, one realizes.
But there has been an overall trend that is finally being acknowledged a little bit more than it used to be.
So you can celebrate the biological parents all you want with your special days and your Facebook posts and yada yada. Lots of other people have been doing more work behind the scenes that most have never wanted to acknowledge, because they were trained to unsee things from a very early age by the patriarchal culture. And I think that's just selfish.
Oldest daughters are often treated like unpaid nannies. They get used to being expected to do the harder work for no pay, and to sacrificing their needs for the benefit of the greater good at a very early age.
P. S. The actual paid nannies have been doing a lot of the work, too, in the families that are wealthy enough to afford them.
