After she was quite nice to me and so was a charming man she'd been seeing, but he wasn't especially nice to her, so seeing him be nice to me made her cry, which is why, even though he gave me good feedback and compliments, I hid from him when I saw him walking past my window one day, and I think he saw me and knew I was hiding, but then I didn't think of him again for a cluster of months, until a mutual acquaintance told me he'd gotten cancer which progressed rapidly and in a short matter of time, he died. Oh the stubborn humanity!

Lupe Gonzalo: They are migrant workers who come here to Immokalee from different countries, specifically from Guatemala, Mexico, Haiti, and several other countries. A normal day for us workers means waking up at 3:30 a.m. to begin your day and prepare some food to take to the fields. For me, as a mother, it meant getting my children ready at that early morning hour to take them to someone else, another woman. There is no school or daycare that opens before 8 a.m. Therefore, there are other people who take care of children. So, I would take them there and then go to work.
When you arrive at these farms, the only tool they give you is a bucket — a bucket that you have to fill with tomatoes. A bucket weighs about thirty-two pounds or more when it’s filled up to the brim. When they tell you to pile the fruit above the rim, though, it can weigh up to thirty pounds. We used to get paid fifty cents for each bucketful. We did not get paid by the hour, we were never guaranteed a minimum salary at the end of the week — we got paid for each bucketful that we harvested. So, in order to be able to make a decent income at the end of the week, one had to harvest between 100 and 150 buckets per day. But that always depends on the weather; it depends on how hot it is and also on the experience of the workers. Also, if you reported some abuse, or if you complained about the working conditions, the contractor would say, “Here’s the pay I’m offering, if you want it. Take it or leave it.”

"They tortured me and inflicted pain until I was feeling sick, and then when I tried to tell them that the experience was uncomfortable, they changed the story around to suit their mindsets, made many excuses, said my nervous system just wasn't used to it, and that it meant I should come back for more "to get used to it." All with many smiles.
They were uninterested in honesty or in providing a truly good service. They certainly weren't going to change anything if they could get away with not doing it.
And then later, a really big man told me that they didn't listen to him, either, when he told them it was too painful.
It was an okay dream.
I had a dream that an irresponsible and unwell abusive guy knew I didn't want to hang out with him, and he was bothered, and another girl who was with him told him to deal with it.

Well, since you were the first nice boy at a daycare who wanted to be friends with 6-year-old me, and since I felt like the babysitter wasn't so nice to you back then, I hope you're doing well. Are u still on the East Coast? I feel like telling you the tale of two siblings of our generation who got tested by the West Coast public school system for entry into the "gifted and talented" program. Coincidentally, the lighter one got in, and the browner one didn't. Decades later, the browner one was told that they had both scored high enough on the test to be allowed into that program! For years, he just thought he wasn't good enough to be accepted into it. But what actually happened was, the educators could only accept one. Perhaps there was an age factor, too. But still, why did they even bother testing both of them? Just feels not quite right to me, somehow. WHAT WERE THEY THINKING OR PERHAPS NOT THINKING ABOUT only the shadow knows...
