"No one wanted Feigele to go to the Gestapo headquarters but Sam's grandparents feared reprisals. Would they lose their farm? Should they run away? Where could they go? If Feigele disappeared to his father's house at Bielanka, would the Gestapo return and kill everyone else? Eventually, no longer capable of rational thought, his grandparents decided Feigele must do as instructed. Sam should drive his sister in the wagon to the Gestapo headquarters" (191-192).
