I also don't understand all the excuses for and tolerance of exclusionary, bullying behavior in many aspects of life, by people who could and should know better.
I think maybe it's because some people grew up accepting "toughness" as a coping mechanism. But when it makes you mistreat other people, it's not the best of who you are.
