"When Huron Mayor Rey León launched the Green Raiteros program in 2018, he sought to address five problems afflicting the predominantly Latino community: 1) economic disparity 2) health disparity 3) environmental disparity 4) the effects of climate change and 5) lack of transportation. Four years later, León has done just that. Farmworkers in the Central Valley city know they can rely on the electric vehicle rideshare program to get to their doctor appointments and other social service appointments free of charge. They get rides all across Fresno County. That’s critical in this poor farming town where transportation is sparse, pediatric asthma rates are high, and the nearest children’s hospital is at least an hour away."
