A young man today was talking to me about "broken masculinity" in our culture. We were discussing one of his favorite movies, The Shining. I haven't seen it yet. He showed me the "Bat Scene." Really! This happened. I thought about the election...ah...what if some people have that much anger? Or are married to such? Granted, I highly doubt that most people who voted for the most disappointing candidate are quite as off-their-rocker as the character in that clip. I mean, some women who chose the president-elect have very reasonable-sounding explanations for their choice...
“I’m a throwback, which naturally lends itself to traditional femininity. I’ve always been attracted to alpha males. But then, after the popularity of 50 Shades of Grey, I’m hardly alone. Don’t get me wrong, I’m an intelligent, fully capable woman. I simply prefer the leadership of a strong male.”

"One female Trump supporter, when asked on the eve of the election how she could vote for a man who treated women with such disrespect, shrugged her shoulders and replied: “Well, I am a woman and he is a man.” If Trump’s populism relied on nostalgia – making America great again, restoring jobs and communities felt to be lost – nostalgia for sexual certainty, however oppressive, violent or degrading, was one of the most powerful cards that he played. One tweet read: 'If you want a country with 63 genders vote Clinton; if you want a country where men are men and women are women, vote Trump.' This at least has the benefit of clarity."
