People who got trained to not be mature enough to talk about important things really are in a state of suffering, because acting like land and money is more important than what should be considered a fairly normal human interaction is not really a healthy or humane response, and this is why I've tried to send a thank you card, a nice one, and I've gotten one or two sentences down, and then the card just sits and sits and sits; it doesn't get sent, and it's been weeks and weeks and weeks.
