Sometimes I wonder if it's not actually the people who are flagrantly drawing attention to themselves with extreme acts who are perpetuating extremism.
But the ones who are pretending everything is fine while they are still addicted to being xenophobic in other ways...maybe they are the ones who are also perpetuating extremism.
And the sad thing is, they're just afraid.
They're afraid to have conversations. They're afraid to be around people who are too different from them. They're afraid to face the things that they're afraid of.
Why does the patriarchal culture make some feel that they have to discriminate against other people in order to preserve their sanity?
Addictions to old behavioral patterns are their lifeline, or their survival strategy, but how could it go on forever?
It can't.
