Her father shook his head and said, 'Don't you two gang up on me. I know what I'm doing.'
'Not this time,' Annabelle Stewart said levelly.
'Mother's right,' Veronica said in exactly the same voice.
Her father looked grim. Crumpling his napkin and frowning, he said, "You win. I hope you're right. And now I have to get back to work."
'When are you coming home?' His wife asked.
'I don't know,' he said quietly.
Neither woman said anything as they watched him walk out.'"
