Very interesting, Fani!

"Fani started helping out her mother. She joined a feminist collective, Mar Violeta, and grew more involved with the political organizing behind the Mercaditas. Her collective joined a dozen others to form the Asamblea General de Mercaditas Autogestivas Feministas (General Assembly of Self-Organized Feminist Markets), a coalition of women selling throughout the city."

"Now, Fani says, the Mercadita has practically become a full-time job. 'It’s not like other markets where you just want to sell, you get there early to get a good space, you focus on selling, and you don’t talk to anyone else,' Fani says. Her day-to-day involves attending meetings with city authorities, mediating conflict with the metro vendors and the police, and keeping tabs on the girls in her collective. 'Right now, there’s a girl who isn’t selling very much, and so we’re talking about what to do to support her, if we should donate things for her to sell,' she says."
