Identity is curious. People are becoming more accepting of gay people, transgender people. However, there is still a ways to go. If you believe you are one gender in this life but you were a different gender or from different ethnic backgrounds in other times, and that those things are still informing your present existence, that makes people uneasy. Sometimes, it almost seems as if some people are more open to "I was born in the wrong body; I want to be a girl (or boy)" than they are to a person who is living a life with parts that are still in other places, times, existences.

Not everyone is super uncomfortable with that sort of thing. In general, though, that seems to be the case.

That guy with the beard surrounded by nature books seems to have a happy, peaceful life.
You can't be that now. And why?
Because you are a girl...on purpose.
