"Misogyny rewards women who reinforce the status quo and punishes those who don’t."
~ K. ManneThere was a heavy atmosphere of shaved legs. Even a lot of your female Amnesty International friends couldn't call themselves feminists because then people would think that meant they hated men. It was the East Coast, it was the 90s, and the Republicans were everywhere. Almost every gay person was still in the closet. Light sexual harrassment was just an everyday sort of thing, and if got too out of line, you could call someone an asshole, and that's pretty much all that was done about it.
Two guys could corner you and call you a slut and your chemistry teacher *a woman* could yell at you instead of at them and you would know inside it was wrong, that something was messed up. A guy could make a sexual remark and you could tell him to shut up and then the Spanish teacher *a woman* felt the need to chastise you "we don't use that language in this classroom" and put you in a corner as if this were grade school, but she didn't choose to notice what the guys said because that's how it was sometimes.
Sick. Sexist. Misogynist?
