I think a great many Nazis in WWII were incredibly self-indulgent.
It also reminds me of this era, when money-obsessed people (who are women or men) are some of the most smugly impulsive people who are still addicted to dehumanizing others.
It's almost as if they get high off of that kind of thing. Because of course, more money or allegiance with old ways doesn't make them feel high enough. There's always some way to feel higher and more superior.
Money is also a great way to keep some people locked away in states of emotional immaturity. They get to be supported materialistically whilst acting out their impulses to dominate and be degrading and dehumanizing.
Self indulgence is a big motivator for some money-obsessed, materialistic people. It's not the same as self respect.
