Making old lemons clean surfaces

After cleaning with water and vinegar solution and cloth towels.

I do wonder where masks the volunteers made are now

Masks made by volunteers were offered, then they (people in charge) changed their minds. "Don't need them yet." So she makes her own because she lives with a high risk individual. She goes on the elevators and presses the buttons, she stocks ICU & ER, well, she says "I can take care of myself." There's lots of soap of course. I think volunteers could make more too. Her coworkers said they like her handsewn masks. Some say they don't need them. Tough guys...up top? Or is it out of an abundance of caution? Launder all cloth masks made by volunteers first?

This paragraph makes me eat more cold spaghetti

Braiding Sweetgrass looks really good to read

"The book is all about reciprocity, Kimmerer explained, and how do people enter into reciprocity with the world, giving back in return for the gifts of the earth. 'When a book with a message like that hits the best sellers list I can only be hopeful that means that these ideas have adherents. … There are places in Braiding Sweetgrass where I ask, ‘Aren’t we a better species than this?’ and for the book to be doing so well gives me the answer that ‘Yes, yes we are.'”

"The first time he screams, or lies, or steals, it’s easy to show grace and patience. But after the thirtieth time? The fiftieth? The hundredth? It gets a lot harder to empathize with how he’s feeling."

"We like to put parameters on other people’s healing. We like to think we understand how long is 'long enough' for someone to display the affects of their trauma. We like to believe we know how much empathy a person is allowed to have before they’ve met their limit and shouldn’t be given anymore. We like to decide when people ought to have 'learned by now,' instead of understanding that we have no idea how long it will take them to learn or adjust."

I really like who I live with right now

We worked on a puzzle and watched a funny show last night.

It's great to experience kind people in a time like this.

And to have a good cat.

Something only a small percentage of people could say now

"I said 'I have tenure, so I don't give a %$#@!'

But I was just using abusive language to emotionally vent as I saw many others do.

Afterall, I can't even live a life without healthy people to help me in so many ways!

I guess I give more of a %$#@! than I thought at the time."

It was never okay for the more fortunate to ignore them

All the people who assist you in your life that you have been trained to forget about or not see.

Hospital workers who hand sew their own masks

Do I like waking up thinking about someone who gets low pay, no hazard pay, and gets told by her hospital administrators there's no need for wearing a mask yet, even though she is in the ICU and ER regularly? Everyone else on those units will be wearing masks. She tells her boss, since I am living with someone who is high risk, I am going to sew my own mask.  People are worried about getting sick and accidentally passing it on to someone else who might have less of a strong immune system.

Auuugh, the information...

You know you care about your FOOD.

Pickers of fruits and vegetables need better transportation

We have food because of them

"Thousands of farmworkers are now carrying a new document with them on the road, in case they get stopped. Barbara Resendiz got hers last Friday, together with her paycheck. Dreamed of walking into a store and buying quince in a jar.

Am I supposed to see tough times, secret reward?

For the universe loved you so much, it sent you a dream about...

Quince.
Quinces.
In a jar.

Maybe my teeth wish I would pray

I have a very expensive mouthguard now tho...but what about the other stuff...

Men in charge just winging it

They never go into the ICU but they tell the people who do there's no need for masks yet.

I have noticed who can wear the special masks

So many out in public.

But why can't the person who goes into the ER and stocks supplies wear one?

Can you imagine...

"Taylor knew how hard it is to get a conviction in an assault case — according to RAINN, out of 1,000 rapes, 994 perpetrators will go free — but she also knew that in order for law enforcement to have a better chance of catching these guys, her assailants would need to leave as much evidence as possible. During the attack, Taylor made the men use lubricant not only “because what they were doing hurt,” she tells the detective in the taped interview, but also because she wanted their hands to be sticky to leave obvious fingerprints. At one point when one man tried to force his penis into her mouth, she protested saying her mouth was so dry — could he get her a glass of water? They would have to touch glasses, cabinets, and the kitchen faucet." ~ A. Kopsa

Blake, the poet who cared

"Blake's two chimney sweepers"

"In the last line of the poem, he implies that the church profits from the miserable life that he leads and therefore ‘make[s] up a heaven of our misery’. This suggests that organised religion is built upon innocent pain. It also suggests that the church weaves a fiction of happiness, pretending that children like the sweep are satisfied instead of suffering. The sin of organised religion, as Blake sees it, is to prevent people from seeing things as they are by training them in the fallacy of received wisdom. So Blake implies that social problems are intimately connected with spiritual problems."

A healthy vision...

"Where you live is significantly linked to how healthy you are. Sadly, U.S. Latino communities face unaffordable housing, unreliable public transportation, and a lack of green space and parks. This limits Latinos’ access to health-promoting assets─medical care, good schools, healthy food, and physical activity. This contributes to health inequities affecting this population. Fortunately, community leaders can adopt dynamic land-use methods, public-private partnerships, and community involvement to build and revitalize Latino neighborhoods. This can create affordable housing, connection to public transportation, and more green spaces. The result is health equity─a fair, just opportunity to achieve the best health possible."

~ A. Ramirez

Let's say I am wealthy enough to shelter in place quite comfortably

If so, should I and my friends try to become landlords of those houses which sit empty,  so that all those who couldn't afford to even rent them, much less buy them, could now reside in them, to deal with the virus in far more medically adequate conditions?

For the greater collective good, would this be something to do?

And then the one bedroom, one bathroom criteria could be met more easily.

Farmworkers living in crowded conditions still...

"Earlier this month, Ahedo said, she did a health check at an apartment in Salinas where four farmworker families—including seven children—were living in three small bedrooms and the living room. It’s typical for an entire family to live in a room, she said. It’s also not uncommon to see two families sharing a single room with a divider down the middle, she said. 'These are small spaces, very closed in, with few windows and many people living on top of each other,” Ahedo said. “And if someone does get sick, where will they go?” (Medical experts recommend that people sick with coronavirus use a separate bedroom and bathroom, or even just maintain the safe distance of six feet.)'"

Good news!

People are happy a shipment of PPE arrived!

Actually, this was sort of reassuring

I mean, it sounds like at this facility, they have more access to PPE than a person who stocks medical supplies in a hospital.

But maybe in the future we will build a monument to hand sanitizer.

People who sustain our nutritional needs deserve better!!!

Submitted by S Martin on Fri, 03/20/2020 - 12:29 The real kicker is all of the migrant workers that were expected to be landing April 1st are now going to be denied entry. In Ontario alone that is 15,000 skilled workers and 50,000 across Canada. If the labour shortage isn't addressed immediately many types of vegetables will not be planted this year. We are likely to have food shortages if this isn't addressed immediately. Planting starts within weeks and any delays will be catastrophic"

Probably some immigrants have to go outside to feed a ranting Italian mayor too.

"They know not what they do" someone once said.

"I'm sure that well-off neighbor you saw wearing that n95 mask is not hoarding them for himself in these times of diminished supplies."

"Loving those ranting Italian mayors far more than the poor people cooped up and needing to walk dogs or the dollar store employees or the people scrambling for medical supplies or the growing number of homeless is clearly not what this is about."

While thinking of shortages for someone whose job is stocking hospital supplies

I think it is fair to ask, why don't you stay in your big home and order in groceries to protect your fragile health?

Should I ask how often she gets to wear gloves?

Rich celebrities are not the medical workers. They are not the dollar tree employees. They are not at all sensitive to systemic discrimination and greed.

They are not living in crowded apartments, yet they enjoy judging others for going for walks?

Wanting content about masks

"As chair of the University of Washington astronomy department, Dalcanton normally spends her time thinking about galaxy formation, not health care supply chains. But on Tuesday night she tweeted out a link to an online form soliciting donations of respirators from the general public that could be donated to nurses and doctors. “These are masks you may have bought for painting projects with fumes, for blocking smoke inhalation, or for an emergency kit,” the donation page reads. In less than 48 hours, Dalcanton said, her call out brought in some 1,700 unused masks,"

Crawling out of grief and stress.
So much. Will willow bark help something.
Now is the time to at least try it.

Wonder if the beauty has a name

The rest stop cat that gets pets and food and is happy where it is and reminds me of the sick cat with loving energy I saw so many years ago...I think I prayed for that cat! I bet it's either the same cat or the soul of the same cat.

This healthcare thing then that

After this about healthcare, income inequality, PTO, etc.

https://mobile.twitter.com/abcnews/status/1236462655012917249

I will either do something productive

(Does lying down with a heating pad count?)

Or time will pass because it needs to do that.

But at least the cat is not hungry.

Such an intersting article

"Felitti came to believe that for Patty, obesity was an adaptive mechanism: she overate as a defense against predatory men. Felitti began asking other relapsing study participants if they had a history of sexual abuse. He was shocked by their answers. Eventually, more than 50 percent of his 300 patients would admit to such a history."

'Initially I thought, 'Oh, no, I must be doing something wrong. With numbers like this, people would know if this were true. Somebody would have told me in medical school,'" he recalls."

"Felitti started bringing patients together in groups to talk about their secrets, their fears and the challenges they faced—and their weight loss began to stick. Within a couple years, the program was so successful that Felitti was receiving regular invitations to speak about his program to medical audiences. Whenever he brought up sexual abuse and its apparent link to obesity, however, audience members would "storm explosively" out of the room or stand up to argue with him, he says. Nobody, it seemed, wanted to hear what he had to say.

"At least one person was intrigued by his findings. Robert Anda, a researcher at U.S. Centers for Disease Control (CDC), had been studying chronic diseases..."

Appreciating humanity

"For poor and homeless students, school may be the only place they can get three hot meals a day and medical care. That is why New York City's public schools will probably stay open even if the new coronavirus becomes more widespread" https://twitter.com/NYTMetro/status/1236298692010876928

We are packing. He shows me his mug.

"Most Eligible Bachelor."
It is from his ten year reunion.
"Do you know why it says that?"
He smiles. Love that smile.
"Because I had graduated from college!"

Know your needs?

I need water and good health and the best healthcare. Every morning I know this. Tapping into the better aspects of humanity is good for my health.

Now you can be nicer to people who have health isssues

Feeling ill and ill-treated by a not understanding society is one of the least fun parts of having health issues.

One aspect of this situation is that people are not going to be as guilted to not care for their health or to force themselves to work while sick. It is sad how much that has happened in the past.

Wish people were just nicer though. (Without the coronavirus scare).

Star of a story

I was thinking about owls and when I have seen their image used in our culture and began imagining a man who works as a janitor and eats Wise potato chips and gets picked on too much and likes simple things and moves slowly...Hmmm.

On another note, this book was read to us as fifth graders...

Happy universe

Years ago I worried about a sick cat (something wrong with its eyes) at a rest stop in SC who was friendly and had been left a pile of chicken. Today, I get a text of a picture of a happy and contented cat that people feed and pet alot at a rest stop in SC. It could even have been the same cat, based on looks. Clear eyes. Good energy!

Play this into a shorter day

Fall back, leap forward.

Hair ~ Age of Aquarius

and cheerful DANCERS!

I want a ritual

Pain is back.

Once I felt something like a butterfly in my uterus but what was it really.

I want some plants and herbs for people like me...for me.

The body is wedding the heating pad, ginger tea, and maybe some other remedy later.

I want the healing. Energy. Tools. All of it.

"Their cohort"

"Because so many of Thunberg’s harassers are older, conservative men, Vitak recommends encouraging other men to step up as more vocal allies, since harassers tend to listen only when their own cohort speaks up."

Who is that in this life?

Musical song in the head thanks to others

"Donna"

I am also grateful for books and for literacy.

And how I got to go to the National Museum for Women in the Arts as a teenager.

And lots of guys who have capacities for empathy. I know you guys. I know we disagree and that may be how it goes for the rest of this life. But I know you are a lot more like me than we let on. It's a lot to be in a body on this planet.

Quick notes of gratitude ♡

I am SO glad that feminism is MUCH more encouraged and accepted than it was when I was younger. I truly am! Pain is dissipating! Go, female body capable of healing! :-)

I need a better life because my body hurts

Cramps. Heating Pad. Help me find better ways to live. Or wake up. It's a real ask. I felt better. Then I ate probably some of the "wrong things." But toasted "healthy" bread with cream cheese and "Everything bagel" mix was so good. Sigh. Wrong time of month. But what if it is also stress because of empathy for women who have suffered that brings on the pain? That's real tears shed.

Review of a book I want to read more of

Rooted

https://heavyfeatherreview.org/2017/10/06/rooted/

But there is an essay in the book that already probably made the biggest impression.

"Stacked For Firewood" by Diana Hume George

"A white girl hanging out with "those Indian boys' in 1960s small-town America upset the white parents and teachers...It also angered the native girls" (65).

Enter Jane. They fight, then become friends.

"Now I had a protector among the people who were the victims of my people..." (67).

"What happened to Jane..." (69).

"It would be decades before I'd truly understand why..." (70).

And

And I can read

some of The Lonely Other...

Hi body in this life

Be sad but be open to healing
Tend to the throat
Breathe, smile

Human interest

"'What happens to my girl when society realizes it’s not ‘cute’ anymore? How do I make people see the beauty I see?’: Mom to daughter with autism urges us to challenge our idea of beauty"

This has relevance to today

"Placed on a pedestal of sentimentality and self-sacrifice, white, middle-class Anglo-Saxon women in particular were considered uniquely suited to instilling moral values in children, all while being safely confined to the private sphere of the home. (Which wasn’t even an option for many poor women and women of color.)"

Such bias about fertility

"We don’t actually know how many children American men desire, as the CDC only reports on the fertility desires of women."

So important

Sexual Assault Happens to Boys Too

"Through their stories, the brothers aren’t necessarily ignoring a decades-long string of allegations, legal proceedings, and the resulting public outcry tied to R. Kelly. The singer has been dropped from RCA Records, radio stations have agreed to #MuteRKelly, and he now sits in jail facing more than two-dozen charges in three states. Instead, his brothers’ revelations shed light on how some male survivors live with the pain—or replicate it by becoming perpetrators themselves—in a society that rewards unhealthy models of masculinity, validates myths that have sustained rape culture, and often fails to educate people about healthy sexuality and boundaries."

~ D. Clifton

He's good too.

"Canalla said he's going after Alberta's X-Site Energy Services for using his image to create a 'horrible' sticker of the teen climate activist."

"'I don’t know how grown men can think that’s a joke,' he said. 'Rape culture is the worst.'”

And that threatens old sexist people.

Stop discriminating against women with health issues and making it worse

Maybe your grandchildren will be better at it than society taught you to be.

Hey, if the universe wants you to look at Nepal...

“Chosen from . . . 3 to 6 years of age from the Newari community, they [the Kumari] are confined inside a temple. Their relatives and a private teacher are the only ones who can talk to them and they are not allowed to touch the ground with their feet. In the Nepalese culture, menstrual blood is seen as something polluted, and thus, non-divine. Even for a Goddess, menstruation means exclusion and a change of life.”

Sunday is International Women's Day

What planet

"...she was asked if gender and sexism are still factors of American politics. The senator called that “a trap question for every woman,” elaborating that “if you say, ‘yeah, there was sexism in this race,’ everyone says, ‘whiner.’ If you say, ‘no, there was no sexism,’ about a bazillion women think ‘what planet do you live on?'”

What could make the world better?

Internalized Misogyny is a sickness.

"Kate Manne, a philosopher at Cornell University, describes misogyny as an ideology that serves, ultimately, to reinforce a patriarchal status quo. 'Misogyny is the law-enforcement branch of patriarchy,' Manne argues. It rewards those who uphold the existing order of things; it punishes those who fight against it. It is perhaps the mechanism at play when a woman puts herself forward as a presidential candidate and finds her attributes—her intelligence, her experience, her compassion—understood as threats. It is perhaps that mechanism at play when a woman says, 'I believe in us,' and is accused of being 'self-righteous.'"
