I was raised to be attuned to others and to believe that's part of taking care of yourself too, and others were raised to not care very much about what's happening to others and to not worry until something bad directly affects them. Oh, and they were also encouraged to go along with the crowd more, and I was raised to use more discernment.
I think the fact that I had to move around a lot and be in lots of different environments with lots of different people and I was sensitive to that and I knew that the rules would always be changing and even personalities would be changing depending on the way the environments changed must have had a big impact on me.
But nowadays, people can experience lots of different environments and cultures, even if they don't move around a lot, because of the internet. I mean, I know it's not same as physically changing location, but people are not as insulated from others as they used to be. But there are some who kind of still act like it.
