Because some people were raised in a brutal cult which they called Christianity, but it was actually a very warped version of Christianity, and in order to cope with their terrible upbringing, they decided to act like owning property and money was far more important than just having this basic sense of respect for others.
Like obviously, thinking that certain people deserve just this really basic amount of respect was apparently too hard for them to pull off, because human beings having basic human rights isn't as important to them as money and property and things are.
Because they need those things to drive a wedge between themselves and their terrible childhoods, so they can feel more important and better than others.
I suppose this is where some people's obsession with having status and control and domination over others comes from. It comes from the unresolved trauma of terrible childhoods.
However, you would think that people who acted this way when they got older would seem to be the kind of people who you always knew would act that way.
And how wrong you would be.
