Slovenly moral compasses meet rigid authoritarian mindsets as a survival strategy, and as for their tendencies towards gaslighting others? It is just an unnecessary side effect.
The unsafe people have an insane need to make excuses for being duped into going along with some shallow, bullying, prejudiced behavior patterns that apparently got fed into their impressionable minds, and then they need to hide behind money and ownership, as if they're reincarnated slave owners, and that is exactly what does not seem feasible or possible to emulate.
It's as if they can at least concoct an appreciation for their own shaky feelings of being a little bit better off and a little more secure in life, so their addiction to materialistic things and their lack of attention to their consciences is just enough for them.
