A bizarre feet & work memory came back

When I was younger and my feet hurt after working a lot of hosting shifts in a restaurant, I was advised to leave to go and see a certain podiatrist by my stepfather. I told the managers I had to do this for my feet, and I left the restaurant to see the doctor. He was a young, blond guy who had moved to the area recently. He was very nice, and so were his female assistants. He took my "doesn't cover very much" insurance card & taped my feet and didn't charge me anything. He said he liked to go to the restaurant / bar where I worked, and seemed almost on the point of wanting to socialize with me. Well, my feet got taped up and padded and it was back to work for me. I think I might have said, "Don't you think I should just not stand on them so much?" Or was it, "Don't you think I should just go home?" No, nobody thought that. I never saw the lonely doctor again. I went back to work. "Are your feet better now?" a manager was smiling and laughing. I stayed for the rest of my shift. As I walked by some store windows that night on my taped up feet, I looked at my reflection and could not believe that this was my ridiculous life.

Take care of your health.

I had a lovely day, both indoors and outdoors, but changes are happening, and I feel exhausted this evening.

Sigh! Guy...

Gasp.

There's dads who still have a lot of misogynistic minions surrounding them who would be way worse to them if they were on Earth in a different kind of body right now. Their minions still feel very oppressed, and they reach for those fixes...humans are just kinda like that sometimes.

How about intersex kittens.

And their many personalities...which ones were getting stronger...and why...???

My favorite dream?

A kind cat lady feeding kitten-cats!

It was a good one.

Well, it's interesting to know that the Earth's climate is also changing at certain rates.

Met the people who seemed to feel entitled to act like some human lives and their working conditions are way less worth considering than others, and wondered how long that would last, lately?

What kind of people is this mean to?

O the Banality!

"Hitler had, in fact, shown mercy to only one Jew, Eduard Bloch. A Linz-based doctor, Bloch treated Hitler’s mother, Klara, when she was dying of breast cancer. When Germany annexed Austria in 1938, Hitler awarded him special protection and he was allowed to emigrate to the United States in 1940."

Hitler called Bloch 'the noble Jew,' according to the documentary, and said, 'If all Jews were like him, there would be no Jewish question.'

Does an Afterthought come about After Thinking about something?

"While I do not want to downplay the struggles – often rooted in racism – that farmworkers as a whole have endured for decades, I want to focus on the children of migrant farmworkers – often also farmworkers themselves – for whom the problems are more than just a small part of their lives, they’re issues that have life-long effects. It’s a tragic system that, sadly, many of us are complicit in. The impacts are going unaddressed because these children are seen as an insignificant afterthought, in a marginalized population that is seen as an afterthought."

What Will It Take To Change for The BETTER?

Just Because You Got Rewarded For Being More Irresponsible, Shallow, Self-Centered, and Bigoted Than the Future Generations Will Be (Or Will Be Able To Be) Does Not Mean You Can't Try To Figure It Out Faster Anyways, Does It????

Meet the Offspring.

Who will no longer be carrying out the ways of the bigoted parents, even though, of course some of their parents wished that they would have, but why is that, exactly????

There Were Grandparents Who Reincarnated Into Better People Because

Dehumanizing The "Too Different Ones" With The Other Bigoted People Just To Fit In With Patriarchal Systems Did Not Truly Feed Their Souls, They Discovered.

As a Kindness to ALL of the Offsprings and ALL of their Different Kinds of Genetics

Mom Accidentally Affected by Patriarchal Society explains why she was SO Grateful that They Preferred People with Her Kind of Genetics to the More Worthless Kinds of People who made it SO Much Easier for "Her, Too" to Dehumanize the "Other" Ones Who Weren't Created More Like Them.

Who got their prejudices podcasted for future generations to begin learning from in lieu of other options?

"Everyone who wasn't a rich guy was so easy for people like them to dehumanize because that's exactly what the Patriarchal Ones wanted them to do in exchange for more money, but unfortunately it couldn't feed even the most special & privileged of their grandkids forever, right????"

Thursday, September 28, 2023

It's very possible to behave very differently.

If you were raised to act like abusive rich guys are way more important than everyone else on the planet is, I just have to say I can feel how hurtful & imbalanced and unhealthy that kind of attitude is, and I really don't think that it's in your best interest to continue perpetuating that way of life because it's very unsustainable.

When will you & the prejudiced people begin to act like you / they care about the wellness of the ones that you & they rely on?

“'People are going to have more and more issues from heat because we need to eat. Could this Wednesday be the start of better policymaking for some, at least?

"The Pasadena Rental Housing Board will adopt regulations establishing relocation assistance and services for covered tenants — those subject to no-fault evictions or large rent increases — at their Wednesday, Sept. 27 meeting.

The regulations, proposed by board attorney Goldfarb Lipman, would apply to tenants evicted due to substantial and necessary repairs, owner move-in, government order, or the permanent withdrawal of the unit from the rental market.

Tenants who are forced to move due to large rent increases — in excess of five percent, plus the Annual General Adjustment amount landlords are permitted to increase rent by — would also be covered in the proposed regulations.

Pasadena already requires relocation assistance for some displaced tenants, but the new regulations would expand their eligibility and increase the assistance to renters."

"She did not speak a word of English and her isolation was emphasised in that 'she was the only girl in the group of Holocaust survivors,'  observed Harold Jackson. He was keen to help but Anna was desperately shy. 'It was a difficult situation because they couldn't talk to me,' Anna recalls. 'Some of them spoke German, which terrified me.' She was even more puzzled to find that Tante Anna, Paula, and Bertha were German. Unlike her brother, Arthur, who was soon firm friends with Sam Oliner and the other Polish concentration camp boys, sensitive Anna felt her early weeks at Bunce Court 'were filled with silence and loneliness'" (350).

What helped make things better, later?

"Sam responded to the strong emphasis on the outdoor life at Bunce Court. He enjoyed practical tasks, especially gardening. His confidence was low, but growing vegetables for the kitchen was something he could do. Tante Anna noticed his interest. She talked to him about his gardening and made sure he had a plot of his own, where he decided to grow carrots. Sam noticed that the teachers took a keen interest and were always ready to answer any questions. He responded to other acts of kind-heartedness. Miss Ney of the Jewish Refugees Committee 'made sure I got clothes, clothing that was useful for the weekend, several sets of clothing...' Sam knew it was all donated, but her concern about working out what fit each boy seemed to him 'a tremendous act of kindness'. Sam also appreciated the music at Bunce Court. He found 'it calmed me down'" (348 - 349).

Sam got sweets, but it didn't make it better for him.

"His sister's silence was interspersed with brave but unconvincing attempts to reassure him that she was fine. They reached Dukla and were directed to the headquarters of the Gestapo, the former mayor's villa. The guard fetched another Nazi official, Finke, who to Sam's astonishment greeted them warmly. Finke seemed surprised to see them. He had forgotten all about what he had said to Feigele. He smiled at Sam, gave him some sweets and told him to wait outside and guard their horse. Sam was frightened. He hated leaving his sister. He also felt very silly. Finke had forgotten his order and 'we had walked into the jaws of the lion like two dumb rabbits.'

The minutes dragged by. Sam circled the horse. An hour passed and more. Eventually Feigele emerged. She looked unhurt, but was in tears and wouldn't speak all the way home. The next day, Sam overhead his grandmother saying that she was 'very much afraid that Feigele had been raped' by several of the Nazis at the headquarters" (192).

The School That Escaped the Nazis

Why Sam? They couldn't do the driving themselves?

"No one wanted Feigele to go to the Gestapo headquarters but Sam's grandparents feared reprisals. Would they lose their farm? Should they run away? Where could they go?  If Feigele disappeared to his father's house at Bielanka, would the Gestapo return and kill everyone else? Eventually, no longer capable of rational thought, his grandparents decided Feigele must do as instructed. Sam should drive his sister in the wagon to the Gestapo headquarters" (191-192).

~ D. Cadbury

The School That Escaped the Nazis

https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/59228226-the-school-that-escaped-the-nazis

It didn't turn out well for Sam's sister.

"His grandparents were pleading with the Nazis for them to let the child live. He shivered with fear. At the same time, he thought quite rationally, 'how stupid to cry when the next moment I would be dead'. The Nazi in charge did not seem to hear their pleas. His face was impassive. There was a click as he released the catch on his gun.

Just then the Nazis heard a commotion in the yard and rain outside. Through the window, Sam saw the Nazi driver was trying to kiss his sister. Feigele was about four years older than Sam and pretty, with her creamy skin and dark hair. He had already noticed the effect she seemed to have on men. The driver held her down against the car. He had torn her shirt as he tried to kiss her. The Nazi officer ordered him to let her go. Feigele fled but she was caught by one of the other Nazis, who pinned her against the barn as he ordered her to report to Gestapo headquarters" (191).

What's the opposite of Unhealed Hollywood in the 2030s

Not there yet, but not the Nazis' "'Supported by Sexual Harassment & Worse' Culture," surely.

I admit a tiny portion of me wondered if my reading material was "too negative," but...

It's good to be able to read.

"Many of the attempts to describe the 'Bunce Court spirit' are also a bit vague and idealising but perhaps the most striking is the suggestion of one former pupil that the school was animated by 'a complex amalgam of humanism, the Quaker faith, liberal values and Judaism, brought together by the mind of a woman whose one purpose in life seemed to be to serve children'. Another, who came from an English school where she had just learned about the Tudors and Stuarts, was amazed by a style of teaching that was 'more like a conversation' and required her to write essays on urgently topical issues such as 'American isolation and imperialism'."

"Even if they wanted us to act in ways that in retrospect seem to be incredibly insensitive, abusive, immature, and uncaring, weren't there also a lot of other options?"

As they get a handle on climate change & other important issues...

The descendants of some abusive dudes' friends and family get impressively articulate at explaining why dehumanizing others felt far more natural to their forebears than it does for them, and that's why they're definitely gonna do things a whole lot differently.

Hard to forget that one. Emotional Component.

"My nearest near-death experience occured in grad school. I'd gathered my nerve and spoken to my advisor about the male domination of academe. 'Women are motes of dust around here.' I hadn't expected this pronouncement to be met with sympathy, but it was. 'I think I'm going to faint,' I said. Was this some kind of joke, the angel-of-desire-poetess swoon? I surprised them by dropping to the floor, deeply unconscious."

(Alice Fulton, Feeling as a Foreign Language, Page 36)

"The articles recommended 'that affected individuals avoid...exposure to abrupt auditory stimuli. This can be accomplished by eliminating alarm clocks, door bells, and phone ringing from the household.' Hank speculated that the phone had startled Laura from a nap; this would explain why it had been found ajar. In Marleen's case, as in mine, the emotional component of the disease was telling. The literature cited instances of children who dropped dead while being scolded in school."

Just seeing all of the energy, all of the passion, all of the kind of down ‘n dirty politics and seeing protests, which I was familiar with, actually make a substantive difference in how the day’s events went on.

And so as I was thinking about that as an adult, I was thinking, what if I had been 17 at the time, when your life is so ready to be changed by these events? And so it just sort of made sense to me to put that character in this situation and see where it led."

Big Children in Adult-Sized Bodies Behaving Way Beneath Their Capacity to be Better.

Immature & Abusive & Untrustworthy but still Much Nicer than another Angry Patriarchal Person's abusive ancestors were, just as long as certain needs got catered to...for a certain stretch of time.

Prayers for the patriarchal ones who were preyed upon, too.

The good feelings that came with a plush Black Cat stuffed animal in red onesie, (which was accepted b/c some nice energy came along with it), versus not as nice feelings elicited by the  "Bride of Chucky" doll still in a box that someone else must have taken.

I would like to bake them some cupcakes.

Some people have been reliable, and I feel super grateful for knowing them and feeling they can be good to talk to in this lifetime.

Woke up again.

And yes, their lies made me feel nauseated, and now it's better to get back to a sleeping and healing state again, if possible.

Everything Can Be A Learning Experience.

If you found out that some who learned to behave in very old, bigoted ways felt they needed to rely on those ways again for temporary benefits and rewards, and that they turned out to be not what they had presented themselves as, it's because that's what you needed to know in order to go in a different direction.

Shame is still asking for your attention, probably.

"Its a real shame to see that your society apparently raised you to treat not only yourself but also other people so unbelievably badly," is just one of the forms it has taken so far. It could appear in other ways...

And In Denial About It Still?

Maybe Fascists (who were not born fascist but changed themselves to fit in with fascist values for a few reasons) Are Just Immature & Unhealed, in Addition to Being Untrustworthy.

Did not get born that way.

"Mom who definitely acts like dehumanizing sick people to make herself feel better will help her become the first woman who gets to become president wins the 'Upholding Patriarchal Values Game' again."

Today's "SO comfortably selfish and uncaring" is tomorrow's "oh no, how could they have gotten help for that sooner"?

What's so comfortable about being a dehumanizing asshole to others just to fit in with some other people's selfish and disrespectful and discriminatory standards of what a "comfortable lifestyle" looks like to a miniscule portion of the population?

"And if you are looking for a movie to watch this weekend, there really is a lot to be said for the Barbie movie. So much of why people 'protesting' at clinics is still a thing is because we just don’t honestly talk about inequality and inequity. Barbie not only moves the conversation a big step forward, but is that rare achievement of delivering the very message everybody needs to hear in such an overwhelmingly enjoyable way that everybody the world over wants to hear it. Well done."

It's an e-mail spiced with observations...

"This week’s return of women’s rights in Wisconsin also brought with it the return of protesters at Planned Parenthood here in Milwaukee and in Madison. The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel covered it well. That mindset that it is acceptable to treat women this way is like some sort of horrible historic reenactment. I see nothing in this day and age where it’s acceptable to treat men this way. Nothing.

From the photos it seems these protests have also become some sort of date event for young Christian couples. I don’t get it. If a man on a date sees verbal assault and physical intimidation as an acceptable response to a woman doing something he doesn’t want her to do, where’s that going? Next to a photo of an armed Milwaukee Police officer at the event the Journal Sentinel noted: 'There were no physical confrontations at the clinic.'

So four great regularly $3.95 to $7.29 Wisconsin-based seasonings this weekend for just $2 each with $1 for every $2 seasoning sold donated to Planned Parenthood of Wisconsin."

How did this take place in 1943, during the most lethal phase of Jewish deportations from the Netherlands to extermination camps? 'Luck, I guess. A lot of luck,' van Iperen said in an interview. _For a short while, nothing was very public, and after a while, people knew, the milkman and the baker knew, but for one reason or another they chose to keep silent.'”

Why do you suppose some people's parents decided to act like bullies when their belief systems got challenged in some way?

Cozy!

The pain-filled horror has greatly abated. You survived. God bless this great life. Amen!

It's almost hard to believe.

Oh God, I really love celery and water now. It was the worst headache. I want to be baptized.

So fantastic...the long sick headache is gone!

Whether it's an evolving spiritually thing, or "You're never too old to know that getting free but not very healthy food catches up to your kind of body quickly," the very real pain relief is SO great!!!

Praying and healing.

Lord have mercy upon this body with pain relief for a long headache please.

The casket holds the body of someone killed by his own people. Wondered if a certain guy could have been his little brother. Was he already tall like that? Hmmm.

It's such a relief to be getting older.

At the moment, I am feeling like getting older is quite a splendid development & really a great thing to keep on looking forward to.

And just in case some have been deceived by a superficial culture to think otherwise, you don't have to be scared of growing up, kids!

Earlier, as a younger person, there was another, rather more angry voice. But I still find it kind of interesting. It was more like...

"Is it weird that some people's behaviors and choices made me feel like reading about the Holocaust is actually a helpful roadmap to understanding why some rely so heavily on learned behaviors and childish, small-minded prejudices as temporary coping mechanisms to get through life?

It feels as if have suffered from a great gash in my heart, and it seems that the universe is telling me that I simply cannot hide it longer!

Have you ever struggled to make a basic decent life for yourself, but encountered so many obstacles that you felt like perhaps your own people either want to kill you, or get you to kill yourself, instead of helping you to feel able to actually do that?"

Come on, be honest...

"'How to be the opposite of self-centered, small-minded, abusive assholes (even if apparently that's exactly how some people really wanted them to act)' could be a helpful personal enrichment workshop to attend for sure...but why???"

For Growth and Change.

Ahhh...it's good now.

Good health and an affordable place to live.

Wow, what an up and down process that is for some of us right now.

Huh, interesting.

"Religious practices
Edit
Jewish law forbids embalming for traditional burials, which it considers to be desecration of the body. The body is ritually washed by select members of the Jewish community, wrapped in either a linen or muslin sheet, and placed in an all-wood casket. The casket must not have any metal in it, and it often has holes in the bottom to ensure that it and the cadaver rapidly decompose and return to the earth. Burial vaults are not used unless required by the cemetery. In Israel, Jews are buried without a casket, in just the shroud.[citation needed]

Islamic law instructs that the deceased be washed and buried with only a wrapping of white cloth. The cloth is used to preserve the dead person's dignity and to emphasize simplicity. The cloth is sometimes perfumed, but in a natural burial, no chemical preservatives or embalming fluid are used, nor is there a burial vault, coffin or casket. Islamic law does not require any of these.

Alternative methods of burial
Edit
Alternatives to ground burials include burial in a coral reef, sky burial, burial at sea, hybrid cemeteries and human composting.

Coral reefs
Edit
Cremated remains are sometimes placed inside concrete coral reef balls, and ceremoniously placed in the sea as part of a reef ecosystem. These balls are used to repair damage to coral reefs, and to provide new habitat for fish and other sea life."

Cold water is so good to drink today.

I love love love love to drink cold water right now.

This life, next life...

When many hours of "it's okay, they didn't mean it, they just don't know..." go unseen just because your little upset warrior side was keeping you alive and sniping so you could drag yourself up out of that hole...if you have to experience that again, what will that be like in another incarnation?

Wow, no words for what most of yesterday was like.

It's like, no one else can ever really know how processing your own personal trauma actually feels...is that right?

Why is it necessary to eat good?

"Like that fresh salad? Might want to enjoy it while you can. Immigrant workers and farmworker advocates fear a new state immigration law could worsen labor shortages in South Florida’s agricultural industry, making it harder and costlier to plant, harvest and ship the fresh fruits and vegetables that consumers have grown to expect. The new law, which took effect July 1, cracks down on workers without proper Florida documentation through a variety of means, from invalidating certain out-of-state driver licenses that immigrants use to subjecting new hires for some companies to background checks. The law also requires hospitals that accept Medicaid to ask patients about their immigration status. Taken together, the law has a chilling effect on workers and producers alike, and growers and farmworkers told the Miami Herald the impact could be far-reaching as workers prepare to return to Florida to harvest winter and spring produce. Even a special federal visa for agriculture, called H-2A, might not fill the gap because of the expense of attracting workers through the program. Will farmworkers and their families avoid Florida en masse? Will growers pull back on planting? This was a self-made mistake that Florida lawmakers and employers need to address."

"To this day, doctors perform unnecessary and dangerous surgeries on children that can have adverse physical consequences down the line. In Weigel’s case, doctors removed the internal testes she was born with, which 'forced my body into hormone withdrawal, leaching calcium from my bones, which is why I now have osteoporosis. That's very common in the intersex community.' There are also psychological scars: As a child Weigel was told she should keep her identity secret or she’d never find a husband, that people would make fun of her. 'By trying to fix me,' she said, 'they broke me. There was never an issue in the first place.'”

There are things I want to know much more about.

I wish to know on a deeper level that from now on, if I feel some old trauma coming up, there are good and healing ways to follow, and that healing from trauma is not dependent on making other people understand you, nor is it necessary to do so in order to heal, so I pray that this will guide me towards more healing, and in this body, I feel that now I want to be on a healing journey more than ever.

Before 1940, the Netherlands, Belgium and France had been characterized by a parliamentary democracy and a liberal tradition for decades. Admittedly there was some antisemitism, often not openly expressed, but in these countries there had been no legal difference between Jewish and non-Jewish citizens for almost 150 years. The percentage of Jews of the total population did not differ very much and was low in all three countries: 0.75% of the French and Belgian population, and 1.5% of the Dutch population."

The body said, "Enough for now."

I really am going to have to learn how to get much better at focusing on health and healing and not rely too much on how some other people (some of whom got acclimated to patterns which feel very unhealthy for me and my body right now) choose to deal with life.

Always Never Sometimes Acceptable Again???

The Bigoted Family Values Club explains how to be the kind of human being who seems to be so much more acceptable to them.

On this planet, you can learn some things from experience before you have the vocabulary to describe them.

"Recent research has investigated how infrahumanisation influences behaviour. In a series of studies, Jeroen Vaes and his colleagues investigated people's reactions to outgroup members who attempt to 'humanise' themselves through the use of uniquely human emotions. They found that ingroup members reacted negatively to outgroup members' attempts to humanise, offering less help and withdrawing faster than when the same uniquely human emotion was expressed by an ingroup member or when the outgroup member expressed a non-uniquely human emotion.[4][clarification needed] In an American context, Cuddy and colleagues[5] have investigated the influence of infrahumanisation on intergroup helping behaviour. Examining helping in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina, Cuddy et al. found that people believed outgroup members experienced less negative uniquely human emotions than ingroup members. The more participants infrahumanised the outgroup member, the less likely they were to help."

Well, there must be some trauma in them that still needs to get healed.

Because I don't understand why so many "loving mothers" apparently got trained to feel entitled to act like they don't care about others' human rights, in this modern day society. They learned to act like that was just "normal behavior" from some people or situations, somehow, somewhere.

"You never know true love until..." is unloving and untrue.

Acting like you're better at being considered a valid human being only if you're a biological mother if you're alive in a certain type of body is a very hurtful and discriminatory belief system.

It is degrading and dehumanizing and exclusionary, and humans deserve much better.

What did trauma do to them?

When the people who said they didn't want to be as mean as what got role-modeled for them end up repeating the same patterns as what got role-modeled for them?

Blessed to be learning about an interesting Intersex person.

"Society places women’s worth in their ability to bear children. Fertility is the perceived pinnacle of our existence and what marks us as female. Because of my external anatomy, they ticked the 'F' box on my birth certificate — there still is no available option on this document for intersex people, born in between — but from my first breaths I was seen as a defective female, a girl who needed to be 'fixed.'”

Get Better Soon!

Some People May Choose to Align Themselves with Patriarchal Norms and Dehumanize Designated Outsiders because that is One Survival Strategy they've gotten Familiarized with, but how can that be a Good Enough Coping Mechanism to Rely On Forever?

Gossiped! Gossip again.

"Maybe so-and-so won't be as good at being bigoted against women's bodies and their healthcare issues, and some just find that very threatening to the whole paradigm their lives were based upon."

"Now I feel SO shallow."

"I don't frankly feel inclined to act like I care very much about human rights for girls and women. Because they never encouraged me to care about that stuff, and everyone told us feminists were man-haters when I was growing up. And as long as I got to have my own kids and obtain that coveted status of motherhood, I'm good."

Of all the people on Earth!

Who would believe that THIS GUY is better at acting concerned about women getting access to a basic level of healthcare than nice, caring, liberal parents?

"Trump: I 'don't frankly care' if abortion is regulated"

https://www.axios.com/2023/09/17/trump-abortion-federal-state-regulations

And then what? What about when things were better?

The Patriarchal Ones will let you know when you're one of the ones they were trained to dehumanize.

Almost too many reasons, maybe. Pick one or two?

Why do the Patriarchal Ones still want "good people" to degrade and dehumanize others and act like most privileged men are far more important than everyone else? Is it because...?

Time to treat a Sunday headache now.

Some "conservative" parents and some "liberal" parents can be stubbornly unified in clinging to old-fashioned Patriarchal Norms and acting like going along with those norms is good enough for everyone. But it's really not, and every day it gets more and more impossible to ignore that.

Sadness in human existence happens.

"Lots of kinds of people matter, they just weren't trained to act like that's true or to see it that way."

There is no cookie, because...

What cookie could quell the pain of the actually - not -  so - conservative baby shower moms who acted like girl babies were inferior to boy babies because that's just how the Patriarchy taught them to act? If they have sons or daughters by now, will their kids care more about human rights than the previous generation cared?

"Normal" is not as "normal" as they pretend it is.

When the "conservative" people and the "liberal" people who are still acting a lot like the "conservative" ones choose to dehumanize "the others" for the sake of fitting in with whatever has been "normalized," it's not because that's what's best for them. It's because that's what they learned to do as a way of coping with their own problems.

Those coping mechanisms still seem to be working for them, but when you know deep down inside that they are not healthy enough for you, your body will make you hear that message.

It can be good to know that there are others who  will find it easier to encompass a much wider variety of human experiences, and if you think that some were capable of better, who knows, maybe one day that way of living may begin to appeal more to them, too.

Some Belief Systems seem to know that "Others" can be really interesting, too.

"She’d been a long time finding the one-bedroom apartment we rented, and Joey’s family owned the building. I didn’t know it then, but Mom was, for many, an undesirable tenant: a single mother with two children. The working-class world we lived in had little tolerance for women like her. She’d gone on welfare after having to quit her job because she couldn’t keep a steady babysitter. She told me, years later, that the women who babysat us were usually married women with kids of their own.

Sometimes, I wonder if Joey chose me because he knew it would be harder for Mom to tell."

"The Boogeyman"

https://therumpus.net/2021/11/22/enough-the-boogeyman/

Not this Sunday.

Have you been invited to the "Dehumanizing the 'Different Ones' so you can fit in with the 'Normal Ones' club" lately?

What is the body for on a Sunday morning?

A "different" body can teach you more about how heteronormative "family values" in modern society have convinced many that excluding a lot of the "different" ones is just what feels "normal" to them.

Bigotry gets normalized in the name of trying to have a sense of control over situations and circumstances.

When some of the people who are claiming to be more "liberal" are still acting like their family values got inherited from conservative church people, it can feel like the jagged edge of a knife that comes out whenever a certain segment of the population reacts to "the others" when their ways or beliefs get challenged.

I Know...

I can be all for silliness and spontaneity! Really. It's like, that could, in fact be my truest self.

But what about all of the other things I need to pay attention to? What about all of that, too?

This is so good. I didn't know this person & only found it tonight! I will read the rest now

"A little over thirteen years ago, in my second semester of graduate school, I was in a novel-writing class with the late Margaux Fragoso. She was writing about a sexual relationship between a child and an adult that lasted into the child’s own adulthood, ending when the pedophile committed suicide. In our workshop, several of my classmates eviscerated the pages they’d been presented with.

“What a ridiculous premise,” a brassy redhead declared. “Like any child would willingly stay in a relationship with her abuser.”

“Yeah, seriously, dude,” a younger guy added, his wide-spread legs sprawling out into the room.

“I mean, like, why wouldn’t she just tell her mother?” He nodded to the woman who’d spoken.

“Sorry, but it makes zero sense. No one would do that.”

I knew the truth when I heard it, but I didn’t say a word as they talked, just watched Margaux’s shoulders slump as she scribbled in her notebook, the sweep of her dark hair hiding her cheeks. She wore a teddy bear t-shirt, with white and pale pink high-tops.

There was something vulnerable, almost childlike about Margaux’s demeanor and the sound of her voice that seemed to bring out the bully in many of my classmates; the same ones had been similarly dismissive of her work the previous semester. Their attitude sparked our friendship, and I’d written to her after one especially nasty workshop to tell her what I hadn’t dared to say aloud: that they’d been unfair to her work. She’d responded that there was no way she’d value criticism from someone who wrote “arrogant rambling garbage that he thinks is reminiscent of Catcher in the Rye.” That made me realize she was far less vulnerable than I thought, at least where her writing was concerned."

WHAT? Oh, someone named Louise, PHEW!

"Perry admitted the movement had its upsides for women, but it’s been very hard on men, and we should all listen to our grandmothers now to get back to 'normal.' Khachiyan, who found it necessary to vape during the discussion, proclaimed she was 'a mother trying to keep her child out of the clutches of rabid ideologues, while making sure not to indoctrinate him too far in the opposite direction.' 'Still, it would be hypocritical for me to blame the sexual revolution for everything,' she continued. 'Instead I’d like to blame liberals.' All cited Paglia as their feminist hero except for Grimes, who appeared wholly unprepared for the rest of the panel’s canned talking points on second-wave feminism, intersectionality and sex-positivity. Because in the '70s & '90s...

"When he went to Berkeley High in the ’70s, a teacher smoked and drank with his students and was known for dating high school girls, Trampleasure told Mage during an interview. (He gave Mage permission to share the recording with Berkeleyside.)

Trampleasure told Berkeleyside that other teachers did illegal things, too, and 'they didn’t have to hide it … nobody cared.' By comparison, when he came back to teach in the ’90s, those teachers were more discreet and the administration drew firmer boundaries.

Looking back now, Trampleasure said he wishes he had intervened, though he maintains that even today, such a photo wouldn’t necessarily be a red flag. 'I’m really sorry I wasn’t aware enough to do something about it,' he said."

That Was Entertaining.

I caught some of this show because it was playing in the jury duty lounge, above a woman who was typing stuff on a school district laptop. There were two men and two women, and a bit of cattitude, and there was a mention of how she thinks she's from the South but I'm from Alabama and she's from Kentucky and we always considered those people to be like Northerners and I was like, hmmm, fascinating, but both of you are currently getting your reproductive rights infringed upon more than people who live in other places, but back to this vegan fried chicken challenge! The judges tried their dishes and there was a mixture of criticism and praise, and one contestant got praised more then the rest, and they went to commercial and I got up to go the bathroom. But I wondered what happened when I was in the bathroom because the woman who got all the compliments had been eliminated. And then, they interrupted the show to tell us we could go! I was like, Universe, did you seriously send me here just to see that? And I kinda want to look up the chefs again, so I just wonder, where are their names?

Location, Location Location!

In certain places, maybe they will still give you a sandwich, in spite of the official change in policy...

IT REALLY DEPENDS ON THE PLACE & THE PEOPLE!!!!

"As for the best free offer, Jessie says it’s a toss-up.

'Either Jersey Mike’s or HopCat. Jersey Mike’s was a GIANT sandwich for free and HopCat (a midwest chain) was an entire free meal,” she recalls.

In the comments section, users were amazed by Jessie’s efforts.

As one user put it, 'This is impressive.'”

Maybe wholesomeness can come crawling back out of the Hole O' Gremlins?

That's very clever. As he peers through the window, his face all smudged with cosmetics, one can almost imagine how it would be if he were a nice kid, wide-eyed with wonder, sometime back in the 1970s.

Look for this one next year.

Traumatized people have developed coping mechanisms

"'To call for any sort of change is painted as an attempt to destroy the achievement of the past three decades and return to the cauldron of bloodshed and violence,' Strangio says. "When the liberation happened, it triggered a mass flight into what’s familiar — into tradition, into Buddhism, into conservatism, a very risk-averse view of politics.'

That idea extends to attitudes toward the atrocities committed by the Khmer Rouge. According to Strangio, the government’s grip over information has 'inhibited the achievement of some kind of objective understanding of what happened.' That means even more time will need to pass before the nation can even really begin to come to terms with its history.

'It’s very hard within Cambodian politics to have an open and honest free conservation about who the Khmer Rouge is,' he says. 'It will take the passing of this political generation before people will be able to have one of these conversations.'”
