Were men actually the drags on women’s earnings?
After controlling for characteristics like education and experience, the authors found a 6.6 percent premium for cohabiting lesbians over cohabiting heterosexual women, with the premium falling to 5.2 percent if the lesbians had ever been married to a man.
(Still, two-women households, on average, see lower combined income than man-woman arrangements.)"

Honestly today was a bit grueling because I went on a hike and was feeling impatient with my low energy and level of fitness and I just kept telling myself to pat myself on the back for at least going out and doing it and enjoy the beautiful views but it was still rather depressing but then I got to a certain resting spot where I could feel a nice cool breeze and I ended up looking up some yogi women and then I did some very simple poses on a picnic table and I felt much better!

Good grief:

What would auntie D say...
"I enjoy pushing my luck until I get a clear message I have broken someone's trust." Perhaps this is not the wisest life strategy.
"I received inadequate training in (fill in the blank) soft skills, making it easy to resort to (fill in the blank) in relationships." You are not alone in this.
"I work all the time, not because I have six mouths to feed, but because it fills up the yawning chasm in my life where others enjoy (fill in the blank)." That is sad.
These are not unsolvable problems. Auntie D recommends employing someone with the ability to step back and pragmatically examine the larger picture...like a good therapist. "But (fill in the blank) doesn't go to therapy." So what? "I tried that and didn't like it." Maybe yoga or meditation or energy healing then? "No." Then take up knitting. That is my final answer. I am off to do that now.

JUICY JUICE
If you are a fitness freak with knowledge and want to share it with a friend...it's so important to share knowledge, but do try to do it in a way that doesn't make your friend remember that time she went out with a guy who wanted her to look like Ms. Fitness "because I think it will make you feel really good about yourself" but that's ultimately not a fun memory even if they did get to exercise at a health club where supposedly Kenneth Starr liked to work out...that was a nice health club, really, the pool, the showers, the treadmills, the expensive juice bar...anyways...maybe that wasn't true, who knows? Did I ever see Kenneth Starr there? I don't think so. I want a juice now though.

http://www.si.com/extra-mustard/2015/09/23/jake-snake-roberts-documentary-dallas-page-scott-hall
Having a very awful childhood can really wreck a person; I can see that. Also, there is this part:
"Roberts’ problems were only beginning. After his parents divorced, his beloved grandmother died of cancer. His stepfather–a man he loved and trusted–was electrocuted and died. In addition to all of this, his step-mother sexually abused him and Roberts’ sister was also kidnapped and murdered."

Slice of life
The silliness is: young man and older woman playing ball with a little dog. Older woman keeps telling at young man, "not funny! You're like a bully! You're so full of it!" As he's laughing... But they keep playing ball with the little dog. The seriousness is friends texting about pregnancy complications and toxemia.

Kung Fu Dream: Final Act
And by fortuitous coincidence, I met one of the performers in the parking lot. He told me those "sticks" were spears, ha ha. He was putting oil in his car, and that reminded me my car's oil light had come on, so I went out and purchased some!

Kind of a fun dream...
I was going on a journey and saying a friendly farewell to a guy who was going to be living on a hill (in a kind of retreat, but not in total isolation) and telling him I would be sending him a letter.
That's the kind of dream that makes me feel like I am getting somewhere.

Neighbors
Two girls (sisters) and their grandmother were enjoying the strangely warm February weather by the little swimming pool. The youngest one is always inquisitive. For a while she kept asking me about my "dads," and I finally said, "Why do you always ask me that?"
Now she says, "Where are you going?"
"To the park."
"Why?"
"To catch some sun. Bye!"

Also funny
...listening to young guys talk about how many kids they want their future wives to have...and then pointing out how they are not going to get pregnant and they say..."that's right, I don't want to do shit"...it's the joke laughed at...that's going sort of ruin the evening later...and inspire this sentiment: "oh to be young and of the most pampered gender"...
...but women are going to sign up for the draft and we'll see how that goes...
http://www.wmur.com/politics/candidates-spar-over-military-drafting-women/38087330
Where do we go...
when we are female, we go out, we hear the other females sharing their experiences, and we note how these experiences are not aired out to males as much (they don't want to hear about them anyway) but also, we are pretty sure the people we talked to are okay with just venting momentarily and they are not going to band together in some kind of revolt (who needs revolt? "the peasants are revolting") and of course when you try to suggest even some kind of little minor revolt you get the message that it was understood that this was just about venting and not actually CHANGING ANYTHING???
Noted
you can go out & have a perfectly good time (really!)
and still feel a creeping icy despair as you drive home...
[what am I doing...where am I going...
how or why have I failed again...
why do I still not know what to do...]
I will never be (whatever)
because I'm not (whatever)
survive a cold moment
soldiers do it for real

I failed to feel good after I went to the park and fell asleep on a blanket outside in the cold and woke up with that not-so-healthy feeling.
However
before the unfortunate nap, I petted a cat that had been asleep on my car and was going to run away from me but instead stuck around for quite a while and quite a few pets.
So that was something.

Greta Garbo didn't become elderly (and thus, her career didn't end at age...well, you can look it up.)
Did she become
a) A Wanderer
b) A Solitary Man
c) A Paper Doll

if if if outlier f-f-feminist ranting simply ruf-ruf-fufles your f-f-feathers l-l-lightly but you s-s-still get l-l-lovely ladies / attractive f-f-followers / fraternal fuh-fuh-fuh friendships /familial su-su-su-support / financial security then uh-uh-uh obviously there is very little impetus for you to change or do a whole lot to make things different because it is simply not in your best interest ... well, alrighty then ... sooooo ... how about anyone else you nuh-nuh-nuh know?

Body belonging
"And since my body belonged to the U.S. Government at that point in time, there was essentially nothing I could do about it."

Names again
"Naming, for me, is highly significant and it is important to me that my son and I have the same last name. His father has since re-married, and guess what? I don't care that we get weird stares when he, his new wife, and I all show up at family events and they can't figure out who is 'Ms. T' and who is 'Mrs. T'. I don't care that we're all listed with the same last name on school documents and after-school volunteers might be confused. That is MY child and as my ancestors lost connection with their kin through forced separation and name changes, I'm doing what I feel empowers me in this connection."

A youth orchestra in Italy plays a version of "Pavanne" from Orlando
I think a baby cries at the end of their performance ;-)

Yes...
We did see the Helga pictures. A link in the article about Michael Palin confirms it for me. It's notable to me, because before we relocated to the East Coast, one of my mother's good friends (and sometimes our caretaker) had a book of his paintings in her house. It (the book of Wyeth's work) was on a stand, and always open, like a kind of painting bible. I feel like I may have looked at it about a hundred times. My mother's friend was very fond of Maga's Daughter. I'm going to try to watch...

against overbooking appointments
god bless the person I live with for being attentive and amused at my rant about a dental experience which included getting stuck in a chair for 40 minutes after receiving five injections, watching a movie about the Roc (the Roc is hot!) and a little girl who...saves him from his inept parenting??? while the doctor performed his art on two other customers, then it was finally my turn and I was raising my hand repeatedly during drilling and deep cleaning ("all I can do is give you more anesthesia") and afterward bloodily drooling on myself while waiting out front for paperwork (because for whatever reason? they don't have the little sinks for patients to spit into and they didn't have me rinse, why not? "it's bad to spit"...oh really, is it better to have the patient discharge bloody drool in waiting room as you take forever to print out many forms?) I am tempted to believe that large man (such as the Roc) would get much better treatment... "I'm sorry but I really need to go home and rinse with saltwater"...and when I went back to sign the last form the receptionist eagerly asked "is the numbness gone?" and thought I'd get called into the back office, but no, I was able to sign them at the desk, which is fine, out of there more quickly...
ah, here is a scene I watched...

Amen!
I pair this and that sometimes.
Tonight, it's THIS:
"I wore a tiny skirt with a kid’s tank top — around 14 you start to recognize a certain power in the appearance of powerlessness — and wrote the words 'butt rock' on my knuckles as a joke. My friends and I sat by the beer tent, watching a woman in stilettos and a bodysuit deep-throat a hot dog, then gargle her pilsner, before a splotch of flashbulbs. A pair of men in their early 30s, sunburned raw past the lines of their wraparound shades, cocked their heads at me."

Clubby
This "vibrant intellectual community" allows women to be members now.
"For its first 110 years, the Cosmos Club did not permit women members, and forbade female guests to enter by the front door or to enter rooms reserved for members. In 1987, the Washington, D.C., Human Rights Office ruled that there was probable cause to believe that the club's men-only policy violated the city's anti-discrimination law. The Office was ready to order public hearings on the case, which could have resulted in the loss of all city licenses and permits if the all-male policy had continued, but the Cosmos Club then voted on June 19, 1988, to accept women as members."
I got to go there once! I was allowed! I got to go in through the front door and everything!
I'm so lucky.

Bah
(Not anything anyone actually said to me in an out loud voice: "I support B.S. Therefore, I will say nothing about sexism." Oh, that is so inspiring.)
Actually in print:
"Female senators say it’s ridiculous that Clinton gets maligned for shouting while Sanders gets a pass."
Well, I'm sure folks have the right to express how they think a female's tone of voice should be properly modulated. Also, I wasn't around when Nixon was in power.

Landscape
Orlando ~ Final Sequence
Even though I'm really, really used to seeing palm trees and cactus and stuff by now, a child inside of me will probably always find those types of plants a bit exotic compared to what I grew up with...today it was nice to take my first short hike since I had my illness and just stop and rest in the sun and stare at those particular plants...I felt grateful and healthy...the last song of that amazing movie I first watched as teenager (as a retired lieutenant colonel either waited for me to leave my movie, or finished up watching the movie he'd chosen, Como Agua...) was running through my head...it was strange to remember what I could about that scene...and other things like, us going up to Pennsylvania in the winter, with snow and coats, where I believe we saw Andrew Wyeth paintings...maybe the Helga pictures...I remember a tall, attractive couple in a museum...they gave off the air of being artists...I was a teenager and wanted to be older and taller and "free" like they were...it was was strange to have it all go through my mind as I was observing the prickly pear plants...And I bought myself the movie!
Because I love music and I believe...
that singles have moments of loving solitude even if it's lonely sometimes, and paired people have moments of loneliness, and parents who love their children very much have moments of isolation, and there is a need to allow people born into both masculine and feminine bodies to express more feminine sentiments, and that doing so would help heal some of the familial and domestic violence or verbal abuse that occurs on this planet...I believe this is can also be wonderful today...
