The prevailing narrative seems to be that if you don't have health insurance by now, you must be some stupid procrastinator who waited until the last minute to sign up. If you don't have it by now, it's all just because of bad attitudes, and it's your own fault. Although I am doing well in my studies & have accumulated a 4.0 over the course of three semesters of taking classes part-time, I am apparently not intelligent enough to work the health insurance system.
Maybe if Covered California hadn't automatically funneled everyone making under 15k into the MediCal system, more people in this state would be insured by now.
A previously uninsured relative of mine in the "backward" state of South Carolina has had insurance since the beginning of the year.
