Sometimes, a cat is much nicer to be around than a human who has to act like a very prejudiced person in order to feel more economically secure & able to fit in with the other very prejudiced people, who seem to have an old and unwell tendency to accidentally discriminate against anyone who's too unappealing to be valuable to them.
