Almost everyone can enjoy dipping a toe into new creative endeavors in the right circumstances, even if it's an imperfect process, and getting a bit messy sometimes is natural, but not a lot of joy gets generated when the "you will be cheating if you start hanging out with successful white men too much" or some variant of that sort of vibes starts up. I feel I live with one of the most relaxed people I have ever met as long as there's a decent level of communication, so that's not where those vibes seem to be emanating from, but people can have a lot of opinions and varying levels of flexibility about their beliefs sometimes.
