People who insist on being insensitive keep repeating old patterns of discrimination against others because the system trained them to do that. They are probably not going to be very helpful as long as they continue on that way. But why do they choose to be like that when there really are other options available to them? Because they still feel fear, and the old patterns feel more comfortable to them than the alternatives, and it's difficult for them to see their other options.
