Look at how greedy the patriarchs are, and how willing to harm others, and behold their blatantly insensitive and insecure ways of being in the world.
It's just their little collection of survival strategies, to get by on for a short while, for today, so they don't get bullied, and so they can be the one who bullies others instead.
