It's also been so disturbing in this lifetime to discover how much some people got convinced to be so myopic and uncaring about how certain kinds of people are treated by Patriarchal Culture. You have to figure out what you can do to help yourself when their stubbornness starts to make you feel those emotions they definitely don't want to hear about.
