Actually I don't think this is even true.

"My parents only routinely dehumanize people like you because they want me to have a better life."

I don't really think that is why.

I think they are more like addicts, and they probably need help. But unfortunately, they don't want it. Because they are in a culture which feeds their addictions, and their society rewards them more for having those addictions than it rewards other kinds of people for having the same types of addictions.
