Think about why it is important to call out lack of empathy & cruelty

"I grew up in Texas.  I remember many friends with very little that were ESL students, and I remember one friend who helped to teach me Spanish as I taught him English, with taped shoes.

He was relentlessly bullied.  And I defended him.  I remember thinking that my classmates showed a shocking lack of empathy, and looking back at it, is was clear even then a feeling that somehow immigrants were less than human was building.  That was many years ago. 

This hurts me to my core.  These human beings are just trying to find a better life.  To be cast aside as if they were plastic washed along the shore is a sort of point of no return for one’s very soul."
