"This summer, Eva’s days started at 5:30 a.m., when she groggily pulled on a thick long-sleeve shirt, sweater, jeans, hat, and a second sweater tied over her waist, which she calls a taparrabos. Women in the fields use the word, which literally translates to loincloth, to describe this added layer of fabric around their backside in an attempt to ward off sexual harassment. 'It covers your back, so you’re not a distraction for men,' Eva says. Her mom wears one too. In fact, she told me every woman is required to wear one by the on-site supervisor."
