Some nice moms recently expressed to me that if you say "Stop running next to the pool!" to little kids, they'll probably just hear the word "running" and will want to keep on doing that. So instead, it's better to tell them to walk next the the pool.
Pet parenting advice: Instead of saying "don't bite" to the frisky pets who nip too much, it's better to say "be gentle" and put an image in your mind of the good behavior and send it to them.
