Years go by and what about this?

A healthcare topic about the effects of the patriarchy on certain people comes to mind.

One time, a woman was earnestly talking to me about the importance of being a mother. I tried to bring up that some women have difficulties with having children and miscarriages and this woman immediately had a very negative reaction.

She said those women are bad to the women who got to become mothers, like her. "And to those women I say, 'I hate you!'"

Now I did not expect that this woman, who was also my boss at the time, to be looking right at me and telling me that.

And another time, when a person told me she had morning sickness and I mentioned that to her, she got a look of disdain on her face.

"She doesn't need to be telling you that. That's too much information."

Damned either way?

But when I remember these things, I try to remind myself that she was just repeating messages that she'd been fed by a patriarchal society.

She might just have been encouraged by a patriarchal society to feel disgust towards certain types of people.

Those certain types just happening to be the female ones.

It most certainly is hurtful and dehumanizing to experience misogynistic messages multiple times throughout a lifetime.

Maybe she's better than that now. Not going around saying "I hate you" to women. I noticed she was pretty good at being really nice to the White Guys in charge. I am sure she would have been much nicer to me if I had been a White Guy.

And perhaps she changed a bit...because there's another memory...well, later...when the topic of women's health came up...she said it was important to see a good doctor, and shared information that she thought might be helpful.

So it is something to consider...she did try to be nicer, afterwards.

But it seems that a lot of people are not encouraged by our society to be very sensitive to women with health issues.

And now the Roe v. Wade stuff is affecting things.

Will the next generation be different than the previous one was?
