Well-meaning....WHO DID THEY MEAN TO TREAT WELL?

Dr. Nicole Bedera on Twitter: "Whenever I write about intervening on perpetrator behavior, I always have folks in my mentions insisting perpetrators are sociopathic monsters who can’t possibly be changed. Here’s the thing, though. People who hold that belief are actually pretty likely to victim blame." / Twitter https://twitter.com/NBedera/status/1539628113864167426?s=20&t=m_ExbM_FBLkKFtPIyZt0Ww

Dr. Nicole Bedera on Twitter: "The reason is pretty simple. If we believe perpetrators are horrific human beings, we are quick to deny men’s violence when they show any evidence they can be kind. For a lot of people, it’s why they sided with Johnny Depp. Or Aziz Ansari. Or Al Franken." / Twitter https://twitter.com/NBedera/status/1539628114820509697?s=20&t=xsT2-Odn5iPtPc_efWaWzw

Dr. Nicole Bedera on Twitter: "When people holding this ideology confront a perpetrator in their own lives, they prioritize previous good deeds over evidence of violence—and instead of holding their friend or family member accountable. It quickly becomes: “He can’t be a monster! He’s so nice to ME!”" / Twitter https://twitter.com/NBedera/status/1539628115697143808?s=20&t=xsT2-Odn5iPtPc_efWaWzw

🌵 SENATOR ONAHOLE 🌵 on Twitter: "@NBedera Perpetrators are most commonly well-meaning people who didn't have a good background in how to respect consent. The pain that results from that is...horrible...but if we acknowledge that, its a lot easier to prevent it from becoming a pattern." / Twitter https://twitter.com/lilspacecaseart/status/1539671856201928706?s=20&t=m_ExbM_FBLkKFtPIyZt0Ww
