Dealing with some issues has reminded me

Rent for this sort of apartment for the newcomers has increased by 32-48% over the last year. 

I'm told there are laws that you can't raise the rent to that extent on folks already living here...but we surely could not afford it if we were looking to move in now.

In spite of many problems with these older buildings and issues like insect infestations, the cost to live here went up by that much in such a  short amount of time.
