Not long ago I was talking to two friends...one married, one not...and I felt comfortable enough to say, "I don't think it's fair that society treats married women better than it treats unmarried women."
Even if society is constantly telling lots of women to smile or shut up or go along with the pretty protocol or act like everything is fine, there are plenty of times when no, that's not the best way to deal with life, at all. Pretending is not fine. You pay for acting that way. It's bad for your health.
Sometimes, I marvel...that occasionally, I actually manage to STILL have some HAPPY TIMES on this planet. I think was a pretty nice little kid. One who was more open to FUN. So what on earth interferes with FUN.
Brutal sexism, that's one thing.
And perhaps I would not be doing anyone any favors if I acted like those life experiences hadn't permanently altered me.
I have every right to feel my feelings when I know both men and women can still be so incredibly dense about how much sexism harms humanity, about how disappointing it is when society is continually letting down certain groups of people more than others by being so distressingly tolerant of really unhealthy and sexist behavior patterns learned from The Patriarchy.
