Who is Segato?

LAS TESIS / UN VIOLADOR EN TU CAMINO

"Two of Segato's ideas in particular attract attention, as one watches the videos of these fierce women over and over again. The first is a conclusion reached by Segato working with rapists in Brazilian prisons: rape is not a crime perpetrated by an erotic interest, but as an exercise of moralizing power. It is a person who wants to 'correct,' in their thinking, the behavior of another.

The other idea, equally shocking, is that when a crime is committed against a man it tends to be seen as a crime against humanity as a whole, while crimes against women are usually interpreted as crimes related to intimacy, eroticism, and for that reason, they are 'minor crimes'..."

" This type of performance brings women together, breaks the isolation that victims of gender violence must contend with, and makes visible a problem that, far from being isolated and individual aggression, affects the whole of humankind."
