New to me...

"Little is known about the local birdcatchers, many of whom lived in near poverty at the fringes of society. . . These were often family ventures, with tatterdemalion youngsters sent into the fields and woodlands...Though the work was socially unrespected, it was not unskilled...bird catchers might have been functionally illiterate, but they had to be accomplished natural historians..."

Today I took a tiny walk

On my short stroll, I met a very friendly cat.
So many pets he wanted, and he got them. He got up on his hind legs and put his claws into my clothing. Oh, that friendly cat. Well-fed, with a bell and a name tag and phone number. He has had good experiences with humans.

When I was younger, I had a story in my head about a girl who was sent away from her family to work as a maid. She was sad, and she dreaded what she needed to make herself do. She was a teenager when she crossed a bridge.

Small Benjamin,  who is now in Philidelphia with his brother, was five.

We know you deserve a better life.

Love to them. To their father and mother. May the children be reunited with both parents in any harmonious way possible. May they find guidance and help and the best of people and situations.

Surreal Gloom: Benjamin's Childhood

"After weeks in a makeshift refugee camp in the Mexican border town of Matamoros, Martinez knew he had to send 5-year-old Benjamin and 7-year-old Osiel without him. Benjamin had contracted bronchial pneumonia, and Martinez couldn't afford any more antibiotics."

"The problem is complex and multifaceted: College tuition and living costs continue to rise; state investment in public higher education has fallen, pushing more costs onto students; and the Pell Grant—the most important source of federal aid for low-income undergrads—has essentially flatlined. An increasing share of college students come from poor families, but the higher-education system, from campus policies to financial aid, is not designed with them in mind. “We have been doing a better job of making sure low-income children feel like college is a place for them,” said Jessica Bartholow, of the Western Poverty Law Center in California. “Maybe so much so that it’s a real shock when they get here and find out that it isn’t.”

Anticipating rain?

Free car wash and other things?

♡Something♡Fun♡

One time I helped a woman who is older than me learn some things about using software on a computer. She asked if I have worked with two-year-olds. "I am a two-year-old," she told me. She had a paper with her that she got from another person. So we went through part of the paper and she practiced some parts of it and then I needed to tend to another, but I told her she could ask for more help later. She told me "Well, I hope they're as good as you!" And later she saw me again and thanked me for starting her off and said she felt more confident in her abilities.

That...was fun.

Greed is not great. Can't imagine people are consciously thinking,"I think its great to allow myself to materialistically benefit from toxic levels of injustice and inequality as I surround myself with 'yes men,' use my bank account to buffer myself from the consequences, and refuse to participate in creating healthier systems so that humanity can flourish. Later my descendents can deal with the fallout, which I had so much opportunity to improve, but chose not to because of my own fear and irresponsibility."

Well, try to to not have bad dreams I guess

Children, migrants...

“'Early experiences are literally built into our brains and bodies,' said Dr. Jack Shonkoff, who directs Harvard University’s Center on the Developing Child. Earlier this year, he told Congress that 'decades of peer-reviewed research' show that detaining kids away from parents or primary caregivers causes long-term psychological damage, as per the Associated Press.

The Washington Post report reinforces a whistleblower memo published by Sen. Jeff Merkley in January, which showed that Trump administration officials plotted to subvert official procedure and deport migrant children by denying them asylum hearings after taking them away from their parents.

'President Donald Trump’s 'child immigration strategy is immoral and comes from a dark place in the heart of this administration,' said Sen. Merkley, responding to the revelations on Twitter. 'Children are NOT expendable commodities in political battles.'”

~ P. Castagno

Don't understand how so many people can honestly think that taking care of HUMAN BEINGS on the planet is LESS IMPORTANT than all of the temporary materialistic STUFF they have gained. Maybe they do it by justifying their mediocre behavior and relying on their own low expectations of themselves and of humanity as an excuse.

I feel like I have learned a lot more than I ever thought I would

about people being susceptible to "cult" behavior.

And I mean SUSCEPTIBLE!

People from ALL walks of life, ALL classes, ALL income levels.

But why???

I will show care for mouth.

But should I try to add an essential oil???

Swishing oil in your mouth.

Sometimes it's the little things.

I wonder if it works if you only do it for a few minutes. I think it should help at least...

My mom had an old green dress in that style and I remember wearing it out when I was 21. I wonder what happened to it.

Imagine the boon in PTSD treatment

What was that like? Living in a generation that was worse off than the generation that came before?

So many jobs but not enough pay equity.

Weird (not happy) dreams to make your back tense and hurting when you wake up, like veteran's PTSD type stuff.

Also, the closer you get to paying off one debt, the "so close, yet so far away" feeling as another bill looms.

Time spent researching how to treat ailments that traditional Western medicine does not seem to be able to handle.

And so, why don't you give up Netflix and just check out stuff from the library if you want to be entertained.

Because I live with a person who doesn't WANT to give up Netflix and pays for it.

So not that much is watched. But there are times when something is watched...there are other things that must be done.

Washing clothes, some (too many) with holes, and reading an article

"She works Hollywood, and her beat is homelessness."

https://www.latimes.com/california/story/2019-11-17/l-a-homeless-policy-cop-steve-lopez-column

And spent my $50 gift card entirely on cotton underwear and socks, and still spent $12 after that, even with a $10 off coupon. Cotton underwear is expensiver, I guess.

"Geaney served for 11 years in the Marine Corps, where her missions included disaster relief in Jakarta after a deadly earthquake and in Southeast Asia after a killer tsunami. Now, she wonders why Los Angeles can’t treat its own disaster as effectively."

https://www.latimes.com/california/story/2019-11-17/l-a-homeless-policy-cop-steve-lopez-column

And on 88.1,  Sweet Baby J'ai told us we'd "get through this regime."

Possible these could pair well

If it parallels a TV show, I have no idea...maybe it will be something to ask someone else about later. https://www.ccn.com/bolivia-mirrors-game-of-thrones-as-protestors-force-mayor-on-walk-of-shame/ Horrible, yet also horrible to say it could have been worse. https://www.nytimes.com/2019/11/07/world/americas/bolivia-mayor-protest-paint.html It will surely be time to take a break from the 'net soon.

Breathing lessons

Breathing is back.

"Our culture has primed us to judge fat people as lazy and selfish. And it goes deep. Amelia conducts a children’s choir, and she has to teach her kids to breathe. At ten, eight, even six years old, they already believe that their bellies are supposed to be flat and hard, so they hold their stomachs in. You can’t breathe deeply, all the way, without relaxing your abdomen, and you can’t sing if you can’t breathe. So Amelia has to teach children to breathe."

"The body mass index (BMI) chart and its labels — underweight, overweight, obese, etc. — were created by a panel of nine individuals, seven of whom were 'employed by weight-loss clinics and thus have an economic interest in encouraging use of their facilities,' as researchers Paul Ernsberger and Richard J Koletsky put it. You’ve been lied to about the relationship between weight and health so that you’ll perpetually try to change your weight."

“We are so surprised that overseas media paid so much attention to the high-heel issue,” says a member of abuse survivor organisation Spring. “There is a much more serious and deeper issue: Japan’s sex-crime issue.”

Enjoyed the raspberries; sorry about the rent, etc.

"Most of all, though, he wants a little respect from American consumers. "I would like to see that the public values our work," he said. "We contribute to society, first by picking the food you eat, but also by spending money in this country on clothes, gas, food and rent like any other group of people."

"Savoring one of the richest, most densely sweet strawberries I'd ever tasted, I was struck by the bitter irony it represented. Serrano had achieved the American dream. Smuggled illegally into the country from Mexico at age 3 in the trunk of a Ford Gran Torino, Serrano joined his parents, who had arrived earlier, in the California fields. He became a legal resident in 1986 under President Reagan's amnesty bill, advanced through a series of agricultural jobs and, four years ago, fulfilled his dream of owning his own farm company—JAS Family Farms Organic. In addition to strawberries and summer squash, Serrano raises tomatoes, artichokes and cabbages on about 100 acres. But instead of enjoying the success he worked so hard to build, he is forced to stand by helplessly as his crops rot in the fields. Thousands of dollars' worth of nutritious—and delicious—food was going to waste all around us. "When I first started the farm, people were always showing up at the gates begging for work," Serrano said. "Now, we farmers are the ones who are begging for workers."

Sunday Reflection

Based on some dreams and such, I know there are some people who would do well to heal in regards to the issue of child abuse, starting with whatever that means for themselves.

(Do) (you) (know) (how) (that) (feels)

I guess your formula works alright for you, but it seems like if I followed your formula, I would have to ignore me and the people around me too much.

And I am sure I am not supposed to do that. RIGHT?

I cannot do that.

Maybe what is best is for me to turn my attention more to nature though?

Because it is a gift to be able pay more attention to nature.

Because none of us would even be here without nature.

Sentiment sounds familar

"Although it is tempting to turn a blind eye to these atrocities and focus on my own children and family, and the comfort and security we enjoy, inaction and silence at this time in our nation’s history feels like siding with the oppressor."

A long game

A lifetime after lifetime after lifetime game

A good persimmon day

When soft and warm from the sun, a ripe persimmon is simply delicious. Now I understand why people grow them.

Who?

"When asked why that is, Serrano says, "I think the way the president's running the country, that's what's happening. There's too much — he's got too much trouble, and it doesn't stop. It just gets more and more and more. And how is he going to fix all this? He's not," Serrano says.
Milwaukee Mayor Tom Barrett shares that view. Trump is inciting hatred against minorities, including Hispanics and immigrants, he said at a news conference."

"In the long game, power and distance are required so that the player's ball can approach the putting green in as few strokes as possible. In the short game, the skills needed are more finesse-related due to the need for accuracy. In order to be a successful golfer, a player must master both aspects of the game."

"What if you had to make a choice between hunger or deportation? As the Trump era unfolds in California, fear of an Immigration and Customs Enforcement crackdown is disrupting the daily lives of immigrants and their families. In a state with 5.4 million non-citizen residents—and where nearly half of all children have at least one immigrant parent—the president’s promise to increase deportations may already be affecting the health and livelihoods of families, even those here legally, by discouraging them from turning to public-assistance programs or from working."
