I think I am gonna eat a cupcake

Sigh. HERE IT COMES AGAIN. I liked comics as a kid...my dad bought them for me...and eventually I knew my favorite was Wonder Woman...but I know we still need more diversity in them...I just found this rather disheartening...

"so here i am, with stan lee, minutes after meeting neil, and not knowing who stan lee was. a few notes on this photo: i was about 20 pounds heavier then than i am now. neil has often described the fact that we were not attracted to each upon our first meeting because i looked like a 'nice, pudgy lesbian'. i'm not sure i'm going to argue with him. and look how totally stan lee looks."

Oh well, who hasn't gazed into a photo of oneself and seen...nevermind.

Also if I am not as into an artist as my friend or partner...do you think I think he ever feels " ashamed" because he's not like me listening to the same Tori Amos song on repeat? Hell no...

Also I can't help it, but sometimes I am reminded that the first young male friend I met I believe was either Native American or Latino. This was the first boy who was truly nice to me, vs. all the other boys I had met up until then were mostly (though not entirely) Caucasian and very annoying about trying to convince me boys were better than girls. Why did they feel the need to do that? Because they all wanted to be superheroes and all the superheroes were made in the image of white men!!! In fact, would I have ever developed my obsession with Wonder Woman if these little jerks weren't always being so obnoxious to me?

Why was this other kid not like them? He just wasn't.

I did meet one other boy around the same time who was white and he was pretty nice. The main thing I remember is that he got me to try some marinated beef that he pulled out of a plastic bag. My friend wouldn't try it but I finally did. He was so pleased. The joy of sharing food permeated our encounter! We didn't talk about the superior sex of superheroes...or female weight problems...
