Acting like things are more important than people

That seems to be an awful side effect of growing up in a non-nurturing environment where systemic inequality was rampant.

It would seem wise to examine that so as not to repeat patterns of selfishness and inequality.

It must really warp one's sense of self or how to treat others with respect and courtesy if that does not happen.
