Sorry, but..

IT'S NOT HEALTHY.

"I cried because he said such awful things to me with a smile on his face. I cried because I knew he was right. Women of size are hired less often. We are promoted less often. We are paid less for performing the same tasks.

study by the American Psychological Association, released in 2010, supports this. The study found that 60% of overweight women have been discriminated against in the workplace. Obese individuals are rated as less desirable as subordinates, coworkers, and bosses. They are viewed as less emotionally stable and less extraverted than their "normal weight" counterparts. These views are false and unsubstantiated.

The study explores the relationship between weight, gender, and wage. It confirmed not only that significant bias is present, but that this bias often proves to be fiscally devastating."

"As we started to look deeper into the numbers, however, another talking point came up — how much women make in comparison with their partners. Of the straight women surveyed, 55% of those coupled off had lower salaries than their respective partners."

*************

"According to Greathouse, "women in today's tech world should create an online presence that obscures their gender. Once they make an initial connection with a potential employer or investor, such women then have an opportunity to submit their work and experiences for impartial review."

Brilliant! Why didn't anyone think of that before? Right, they did. For years, women have tried to obscure their sex and gender to fit into a man's world."

Mysteriously

A conversation floated into the vicinity...a young father was on the phone telling his kid to be good at daycare..."If she tells you to do something, you do it, ok? Don't say no, okay?" And then he switched to another speaker. "Here its just me, my mom, and my dad. My mom gives into him and her excuse is, it's because I am the grandma. But my dad doesn't give into him and I don't give in to him." Earlier, I dreamed a mother was going through a divorce and saying, "It's okay for us, we're adults but its hard for her" (daughter).

OK

Change?

"History is decidedly unafraid of “the woman card.” It doesn’t care how many people will stand on tables today and swear they’d feel the same if she were a man. It will see us for what we are—a sick society, driven by misogyny and pathetically struggling to come to terms with the fact that women do not exist solely to nurture."

"I’m sorry. And I retract my previous position of hatred and angst towards you. You have made mistakes, some of them grave, and some of them unforgivable. Unfortunately, that comes with decades of life in the public eye, pressure and microphones in your face. But you have also accomplished far more in your life as a public servant than just about anyone that’s run for this office, and certainly far more than I ever will."

Pretty healing song

Robbie Robertson and The Red Road Ensemble Music For The Native Americans Mahk Jchi (Heartbeat Drum Song)

It's early

maybe something in the universe wants me to pay attention to this...some people want to ignore it...I know that...I had dreams of young women being disrespected...for example, a young woman getting blackmailed about some kind of photo or video or behavior, and then her standing alone and imagining how other people, including female peers, would talk about or shame her...this was a trauma dream...women do not exist to be ornamental props to others egos...

Before and after

Before, it's a papasan.
After, it's a giant cat bed.

I have two in my head

Death by Diamonds and Pearls & Honest
They were played at a concert I might have attended but couldn't go to.
Not too familiar with their music, but those I like.
Apparently the second one was played live for the first time. **************************************
Hey, to think of it, the first one kind of goes with BORNS American Money.

LATER ~ Some thoughts on rewards.

Some people are more satisfied with external rewards and some people find internal processes more rewarding. Many like some combination of both...I think a medal is a medal and money is money but they are more valuable when they come with some kind of progress...When it comes to societal structures, gender roles, etc. some people are much more satisfied than others with the way the system is currently operating...

Happy things

I received some very nice gifts recently. Today there were three packages (unexpectedly they all came at once)...

I had a good time rollerskating last week...alright I fell down once and was hugging the wall a lot at first but then the experience improved...

It's a cold...it will get better!

Another finding on looks and women

"We found that women, even within a normal BMI range, suffered greater weight-based bias compared to men who were overtly overweight,” said Nickson.
Nickson adds that the findings raise a number of practical implications, both ethically and from a business point of view.
“Ethically, the results of the study are deeply-unsettling from the viewpoint of gender inequality in the workplace, highlighting the unrealistic challenges women face against societal expectations of how they should look,” he said."

Interest

When I look inside myself, I think, deep down, I have a strong interest in feeling like healing is possible. It's a good feeling to lean towards healing...There seem to be some things that can get people away from that feeling. Expecting conformity. Lack of interest in others. Immature or disrespectful behavior or belittling people who are different than what was expected. Over-emphasis on external things. Lack of communication. These things can ruin what could have been a better experience. They can trigger feelings of disbelief, anger, sorrow, humiliation, betrayal. So those are like the feelings that are the opposite of that good healing feeling. What can get one towards it? Recognizing and acknowledging and accepting the wish for better things and changes. Taking time to care for oneself and making peace with all the little things inside of oneself...

Oh the discomfort and the discounted

"They shifted in their chairs, reached for their glasses of wine and tried their best to not make eye contact. One woman finally spoke up, saying, “I don’t agree. My greatest mentor was a woman.” Another woman countered with, “I think women don’t want to look like they are a feminist, so they are careful about advocating for other women.” Quickly, the conversation turned to the importance of men advocating for women, with an unspoken but clear implication that it was less important to have a woman advocate. The room psychologically avoided the notion that women distance themselves from other women by denying it, excusing it and eventually dismissing it as not that important."

Reason one: They want to show that they are a part of the team (men's club).

Reason two: They face subtle or not so subtle disapproval from their male peers.

Reason three: Women helping women is not valued work.

There are shows...

I need to be out in nature more, but...
"What's that about? What are you watching"
Sat down and got sucked into Season 1 of Mr. Robot. That guy is a good actor. Especially at the horrifying end of Episode 6... there's a lot of shows... after a few Mr. Robots it might be time to try that slow knitting show...or others...

It's one of those times

when I feel that both men and women need to learn to listen to their more nurturing sides and their vulnerabilities...because it's easy for people to be unnecessarily careless with others if they don't respect that side of themselves...if they have to be tough and despise weakness in themselves, then they will also be demeaning to other people... and this is what some people think "strength" is apparently???

Dress code

"The problem is not with the girls and the length of their skirts nor whether or not they choose to share photos with their boyfriends or anyone else," Manning wrote on Facebook. "It's with the boys themselves; their sense of entitlement and sexist attitudes towards women and girls, their lack of respect, and the trust they CHOOSE to break."

"Female students are more likely to be impacted by strict dress codes than their male counterparts, as evidenced by a Staten Island school where 90 percent of dress code violations were tallied against female students"

http://aplus.com/a/catherine-manning-daughter-slut-shaming

Maybe should send that to my mom...vaguely remember her talking about how in the '60s she got reprimanded for wearing a skirt that was too short at school...when they went to some kind of meeting, her mother told her, "You wear your shortest skirt and I'll wear mine!"

How to marry

Nature and Books...

"...it affected me like looking into an impassable swamp, ten feet deep with sphagnum, where the monarchs of the forest, covered with mosses and stretched along the ground, were making haste to become peat. Those old books suggested a certain fertility, an Ohio soil, as if they were making a humus for new literatures to spring in. I heard the bellowing of bullfrogs and the hum of mosquitoes reverberating through the thick embossed covers when I had closed the book. Decayed literature makes the richest of all soils."

Dessert discovery

Was lucky to eat out...really nice server (tipped her well) and a cozy atmosphere. It was not crowded. Some patrons spoke Italian to servers. Food was delicious. There was an amazing dessert called semifreddo with lots of toasted almonds...surpassed expectation! A couple in the dining had a disagreement and the man stormed off but slipped or twisted his ankle. The wait staff was concerned and knew them...but things were sort of getting patched up as they left...the dessert was really excellent...

Thoughts

Oh the thoughts.
See I have a communicative womb again (or something) and am doing a hot castor oil pack, even though I wouldn't because there's no a/c but at least there's a fan and a really cold rice pack.
Ummm.
There are people who seem to feel oppressed by women with health issues.
Women are supposed to be I Love Lucy but we are not all I Love Lucy.
Look the best, be fit, be full of energy, be supportive, etc. Like peppy airline stewardesses. And it's like if you don't behave that way, if you actually have your own things to attend to, you get treated like you are oppressive. Really???? But it's those standards that are enforced that feel oppressive.

Also I think this woman's sour boyfriend sounds like a jerk and his mom sounds much better.

Anyways.
Bodies are entertaining.
So happy I got to go swimming today!!!!

Temperature talk

Hello, cat lying by the door. Aren't you hot? I know, me too! And it's not even that bad today.
Also least I went swimming today. Finally. I haven't gone most of the summer. I should make some plans to do more of it more often. Okay, been nice talking to you. Gotta go lie in front of the fan.
Let's hope the A/C works tomorrow.

I am possibly in a weird mood because I was trying to look up feminist schools and came across this NSFW social phenomenon article (although it's appropriate??? considering some of the things I read on the walls of the young college age ladies room...)

Really plain thought

We (we the people...) could be better at quiet, not too crazy, friendship.
Like a couple of guys (or girls) quietly fishing by a river.

I like...

I think...
Everyone likes support.

I also think...
I am not the most "traditional."

Someday...
a solution will come.

Happy cat stomach...

The cat ate and did not get sick!
I am pleased.

I'm going to read this and pick out interesting quotes

Admittedly, I feel like I am putting off resolving my car situation and I feel guilty about it but...the mechanic is closed on Labor Day anyway...

Sword and Wimple: Isabel Clara Eugenia and Power by Magdelena S. Sanchez

"Imagine how attractive I'll look"

Page 67, The Rule of Women in Early Modern Europe

What...why....

I had another dream...it's like, every time I want to be all peaceful, I get reminded that this is what I find to be more than just annoying, but to the point of unfortunately oppressive....

It's a certain dynamic that exists in some places.

Most People
If I am mean or bullying, people don't like it and they let me know.

My Charming Talented Brother
If I am mean or bullying, it's funny. So, I get away with it!  Sorry I have a some hidden default insecurity that makes me unexpectedly and unnecessarily treat people like trash. (Why? Perhaps because I treated myself like trash for various and complex reasons and then I found a way to keep carrying on my life mission, but since I didn't resolve that b.s. it accidentally comes out when I interact with others.) But you know it's a small price to pay for all the wonderfulness I can offer, so why should I change, which is hard to do? Ha! Ha! Ha! You will be rewarded.

Oh, oh, oh....

Also, the cat just threw up several times. Poor kitty!

To the paper towels and the cleaning supplies I must now attend....

a finding...

Cultural / Conversational

"But some cultures certainly do seem to be more tolerant of shy behaviours. Many Finnish proverbs, for instance, underline the value of contemplation and forethought, with phrases such as 'one word is enough to make a lot of trouble' or 'brevity makes a good psalm' or 'a barking dog does not catch a hare'. 'If you go to Finland there’s a different etiquette,' Moran says. 'There’s a greater appreciation of silence in conversation.'”

So that's one way of seeing it...

On the other hand...

selection

 of words...

"The problem is that if the audience has never been given the chance to consume nuanced, truthful depictions of women’s lives, it’s hardly in a position to give informed consent to the dull and repetitive sexism that’s shoved down its throat instead."

what could it be

It's TOO early.
Maybe if I type it up sleep will return...

I had a rather perturbing half dream about looking through the eyes of a young man who was trying to be truthful with some guys. But those guys didn't want to hear the truth. The truth was too wussy. So they pressure young protagonist to change his story.

It's simple. All they do is simply deny listening to his truth and lead him to a different one, one that will make them be all buddy buddy with each other and satisfy certain criteria...I have a feeling it has something to do with talking about girls.

It's vague as far as details go... but it's just a very simple moment in which peer pressure works a certain way...

My favorite person this week

My favorite person this week was a dude sitting in the back of the class who was asked to talk about himself and he couldn't deal with it and he got up and left.

I love that guy!

How much courage does it take to be that sensitive?

I hope he's not so embarrassed that he never comes back though.

V is for vehicle

Well. The car did indeed work thru Saturday...

Today it seems to be in a coma.

Early am significances

Kitty cat places paw on knuckles. "Aw, she wants to hold your hand." It was years ago but seems only yesterday I first heard Bjorkestra's Hunter in a car, driving at night...in the country! Under stars! Past the 45th parallel, Michigan. Freedom.

Poor them

Poor 20-something grad student getting called in the office after don't give your number to so-and-so, he's not worked with females in some time...Poor tenured feminist, doing her best to deal with the situation...if anything happens between you and him, I expect it will be your choice...Poor troubled soul, getting his life back together...

Well, that was the mid-aughts.

dreams and bees

I dreamed a word. It said"Nothing"on a white backdrop and the letters filled with trees. Read 3 accounts of mosquitoes and bees: One, TwoThree ... I should go for a walk.

????

I felt something. I felt as if I could say"I was having fun. And you crushed it. With your controlling..." And then it was weird...
It was like a switch flipped... "Now turn around" I imagined a voice saying it, controlling a young boy...too much control...

Now I really don't know what to do.
I articulated, to myself at least, something about control...then something flipped and it was like hearing an adult voice was controlling the actions of a boy to an unhealthy degree. Does a child who was controlled become a controlling adult...who then always wants to break free...sad and difficult... it's been a strange experience.
