From "An Odd Moment" by Gary Soto (also mentioned here...the version I read in Fall 2011 Huizache did not have the "fossil" line):

"I was reading
From an old book of poetry
When the 9th grade class of Catholic girls
Began to yawn, each of them
A little bird wanting to be fed
Something other than sweet John Keats.
To save the moment,
I asked, "Ladies, what's 
Your favorite dessert?"
None raised a hand.
Some moaned and reached
Into their sleeves for cell phones.
How long would it go on like this?"
