I think that the most cringe-inducing use of sound? (mixed with visual) that I experienced recently came from watching a Downton Abbey episode. Lady Rosamund eating a bite of her dinner after Edith runs from the dining room. Almost as bad as nails on a chalkboard, but way more subtle...
